Hello, I had the exact same problem. Problems of resolving hosts and slowness of the pc. Fast startup is disabled, I tried a clean uninstall and reinstall several times with the support tool, and the problem is still there. The only solution for me is to completely uninstall mbam, for now. I only use windows defender as a supplement. My windows 10 (64 bit) is: ver. 1909 - 18363.959. My system and my drivers are all up to date.

You already have an open topic. The last post asked for logs and were never posted. Please follow those instructions in that topic and post the logs requested in that topic.

There can be underlying issues that a clean install will only temporarily fix. That is why logs were asked for in that topic.

And we frown upon people posting in other users topics with me too posts.

Hello @Fatcap    Thank you for the MBST support tool report.  I believe this system will benefit from a few preliminary checks before attempting a new Malwarebytes install.

I notice that the system used to have G Data Antivirus  ( though apparently it seems to be not installed now,)

I would suggest that you run a couple of system checks.

on the Windows search box,  type in

cmd.exe

and then look at the entire list of choices, and click on Run as Administrator.

It is best to  use COPY & Paste for the following.

At the Command prompt either type or copy/paste the following commands, tap  Enter-key after the command:

sfc /scannow

Press Enter-key.   Monitor  and when it has completed write down the last results displayed.

[    2  ]

Copy & Paste into the Command-prompt-window

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

Press Enter-key.   Monitor  and when it has completed write down the last results displayed.

I would like to have the bottom-line summary at the end of that run.

Sincerely.

N.B.  @Fatcap   Please stick with me.   I believe there is more to do, that needs one to one help & guidance.

There are a few Windows services that are having issues, including the Web Helper service.   These entries are from the reports, from the Windows event logs.

Hello.   Thank you.  That is good.   Next, I have a custom script for this machine's Windows to take care of some Windows services so that they are on.

As part of this fix all temporary files will be removed. If you have any open web pages that have not been bookmarked please make sure you bookmark them now as all open applications will be automatically closed. Also, make sure you know the passwords for all websites as cookies will also be removed. The use of an external password manager is highly recommended instead of using your browser to store passwords.

The following directories are emptied:

  • Windows Temp
  • Users Temp folders
  • Edge, IE, FF, Chrome and Opera caches, HTML5 storages, Cookies and History
  • Recently opened files cache
  • Flash Player cache
  • Java cache
  • Steam HTML cache
  • Explorer thumbnail and icon cache
  • BITS transfer queue (qmgr*.dat files)
  • Recycle Bin

Important: items are permanently deleted. They are not moved to quarantine. If you have any questions or concerns please ask before running this fix.

The system will be rebooted after the script has run.

.

This custom script is for  Fatcap  only / for this machine only.

Close and save any open work files before starting this procedure.

I am sending a    custom Fix script which is going to be used by the FRSTENGLISH  tool. They will both work together as a pair.

Please RIGHT-click the (attached file named) FIXLIST and select SAVE  link AS and save it directly ( as is) to the  Downloads  folder

The tool named FRSTENGLISH .exe   tool    is already on the Downloads folder
Start the Windows Explorer and then, to the Downloads folder.

RIGHT click on  FRSTENGLISH     and select RUN as Administrator and allow it to proceed.  Reply YES when prompted to allow to run.
to run the tool. If the tool warns you the version is outdated, please download and run the updated version.
IF Windows prompts you about running this, select YES to allow it to proceed.

IF you get a block message from Windows about this tool......
click line More info information on that screen
and click button Run anyway on next screen.

on the FRST window:
Click the Fix button just once, and wait.

frst-fix.jpg.f6a25291b39a03d418acc9a3b7136900.jpg

PLEASE have lots and lots of patience when this starts. You will see a green progress bar start. Lots of patience. This run here should be fairly quick.
If you receive a message that a reboot is required, please make sure you allow it to restart normally.
The tool will complete its run after restart.
When finished, the tool will make a log ( Fixlog.txt) in the same location from where it was run.

Please attach the FIXLOG.txt with your next reply later, at your next opportunity

Please know this will do a Windows Restart.   Just let it do its thing.

We will do more after this round.

Sincerely.

Fixlist.txt

I don't really want to run a command line file that is unknown to me. I have a vague idea of what these lines will do, and I wonder about the impact with my problem coming from mbam. My pc is running fine.
I have never had any problems with any windows services, nor even with mbam for that matter except since the component update version 4.
I would also like to have the detail of all these command lines in the Fixlist file.

I agree to perform actions, unless they are explained to me in detail, and which have no impact on my windows installation and those of my software or my configuration.
I hope you understand the fact that I am suspicious even though I have some faith in you and the staff. Thank you so much.

Hello.

The script is fully intended to help out all around.   This system will benefit from it.

It will create a restore point at the start & at the end of the run.   It will allow the system to be able to show advanced boot options. It insures that important services are properly set to standard,  one being of importance since the earlier report from FRST showed they had had past issues.  That is The Secure Socket Tunneling Protocol Service (SstpSvc)  which is  related to internet connection.   The script just insure they are at standard setting.

Ok, thank you very much for the explanation. So there will only be my passwords on chrome that will be deleted. That of steam, razer synapse and uplay will not be affected logically. Only browsers.

So I'm going to run this cleanup script, but not right now.

I have work to do.

I'll keep you informed.

Good morning.   The run is very good.

Having that completed,  we are then ready to do a new fresh setup with the latest release of Malwarebytes for Windows.

Please prepare by first closing any open work; saving any work in progress. Close them so you can have better view.
Ideally, if possible, do a Windows Restart. Then proceed.

the Malwarebytes installer is at this link

https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/mb4_offline

download and save the setup file . It will automatically download. Just SAVE first.

1. RIGHT-click mb4-setup-consumer- 4.1.2.175-1.0.990-1.0.nnnnn   .exe & select “Run as Administrator”   to start the Malwarebytes for Windows setup.
2. Follow the installation instructions to complete setup.

Watch all of the process. Have lots of patience.

Next things to do in the program:
In Malwarebytes, click Settings icon, on the GENERAL tab scroll down to &
click on the button "Check for Updates".

Next
Click the Security Tab. Scroll down to
"Windows Security Center"
Click the selection to the left  for the line "Always register Malwarebytes in the Windows Security Center".    to have it set to OFF
[ the OFF position is all the way to the left }

Keep me advised on all this.

NOTE:   In case some issue happens,  instead of uninstalling the program, one can Exit out of the program, or selectively turn off one or another of the real-time protections of the program.    By using the blue-icon for MB4 on the system Notification area.   Please bookmark / see this article

rectification, some pages are not displayed, and a slowness on the connection appears. I tested by deactivating all or partially the active protections, the problem is still present. after a while malmwarebyte takes a long time to respond to display its main window or contextual menu on the taskbar icon.

Bonjour.
https://support.malwarebytes.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038524254-Quit-Malwarebytes-for-Windows-Premium-services
