Infected with Vundo.H and can't clean it

Recommended Posts

I have an infection with Vundo.H

I have tried MalwareBytes, Symantec's FixVundo, Vundofix, SpywareDoctor (can't even detect it), HJT, Superantispyware and can't clean it. I even tried them in safe mode with multiple reboots, but the same 8 infections always return on reboot.

Help!

Here are my MalwareBytes and HJT logs:

Miekiemoes,

I think I may have fixed it last night. An IT friend instructed me to boot in safe mode, shut everything non-essential down then load Avast Pro from a stick downloaded from an uninfected computer. After running its multiple scans, Malwarebytes shows no infection. HJT still shows the file atmfdq.dll which I thought was a problem - is this an issue?

The logs are attached below:

Hi,

Start Hijackthis, click scan and check the following entry in it:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {87C7678A-8E9C-45A8-90E4-8DF38DCC0E0B} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\atmfdq.dll (file missing)

Then click the fix checked button below.

Rescan again and let me know if this entry stays gone now, because in this case, with this infection, even though it shows the file as missing, since a driver normally hooks this file, it's no guarantee. So if the entry is gone afterwards, then the file is indeed missing/deleted ;)

Thanks,

I scanned with HJT, fixed the atmfdq.dll, scanned again and it indeed is gone. Hooray! I also checked the dir with explorer and it does not show - I was seeing it before. I think the actual infection was in eqnda.dll which was deleted.

Thanks for your help :o

Glad I could help. ;)

Please read my Prevention page with lots of info and tips how to prevent this in the future.

And if you want to improve speed/system performance after malware removal, take a look here.

Extra note: Make sure your programs are up to date - because older versions may contain Security Leaks. To find out what programs need to be updated, please run the Secunia Software Inspector Scan.

Happy Surfing again!
