Hello,

I just ordered a new computer and it has been working quite well until some weird things started to happen. I started highlighting black with my mouse cursour and my other mointor went grey, went ahead and restarted my computer and then it didn't happen again. Probably a drivers problem, don't think it is a virus?? Or could it be?

Anyways, I ran a scan with Malwarebytes and found 8- PUP:s! I've had this computer for two days and I got 8 PUP:S? I managed to remove 6 and the the last two from deleting a browser option on chrome. What caused these PUP:s to infect my computer?

This is what I have downloaded:

ASUS Aura Lighting Setup

Steam

Spotify

GTA V

Apex Legends

Origin

Discord

Razer Synapse 3 and 2

Avast Free Antivirus

Geforce Experience

And lastly

FiveM (GTA mod)

Thanks!

Hi,    :welcome:

My name is Maurice. I will be helping and guiding you, going forward on this case.

Let me know what first name you prefer to go by.

You did not make mention of what web browser you have used  & which one may have been cited on the Scan report.

P U P  can be got just by going to some websites.   By the way, online games can indeed get P U P  onto your system.  Ditto with some news feeds or popular websites.

I cannot tell what P U P  's  this pc had had without a report.   Please arrange to find the last Scan report  and then attach with next reply.

See https://support.malwarebytes.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038479194-View-Reports-and-History-in-Malwarebytes-for-Windows-v4

I will have more tips for you later.   Meantime, when you get a chance:

You want to disable the ability of each web browser on this machine from being able to allow "push ads". That means Chrome, Firefox, or Edge browser (on Windows 10), or on Opera.

Scroll down to the tips section "How do I disable them".

If this pc has the Google Chrome browser, or the Brave browser, I suggest you install the Malwarebytes Browser guard for Chrome.

To get & install the Malwarebytes Browser Guard extension for Chrome,

Open this link in your Chrome   browser:

Then proceed with the setup.

If the pc has Mozilla Firefox, to get & install the Malwarebytes Browser Guard  Firefox extension.

Open this link in your Firefox browser:

Then proceed with the setup.

That link is for English US.   There are other language version.  Just go to the very bottom right of the page and look at “Change language” list drop down.

PS.  IF this is a brand new Windows 10, you need not have installed the AVG antivirus.  Windows 10 comes pre-built with the excellent Microsoft Defender Antirvirus.

It has lots of power.   AVG I have seen to cause customers issues, such as adding in unwanted add-ons  & other intrusive hooks into Windows.

I would uninstall AVG if I were in your shoes.
