Malwarebytes and Microsoft Store

HI guys,

 

So I heard that Microsoft is planning to open up their digital store for win32. I know they made an announcement for games but I heard that they're opening up for apps too.

Would malwarebytes ever consider putting their app on the microsoft store? What would be some roadblocks to put it on the store?

I mostly do video editing and graphic design for fun, and sometimes work... and there are legit apps now on the store. The only thing missing are antivuruses and security apps. I'm liking the concept of having all my apps from the store front.

Malwarebytes Support Tool - Advanced Options

This feature is designed for the following reasons:

• For use when you are on the forums and need to provide logs for assistance
• For use when you don't need or want to create a ticket with Malwarebytes
• For use when you want to perform local troubleshooting on your own

How to use the Advanced Options:

1. Download Malwarebytes Support Tool
2. Double-click mb-support-X.X.X.XXXX.exe to run the program
   • You may be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent.
3. Place a checkmark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next
4. Navigate to the Advanced tab
5. The Advanced menu page contains four categories:
   • Gather Logs: Collects troubleshooting information from the computer. As part of this process, Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) is run to perform a complete diagnosis. The information is saved to a file on the Desktop named mbst-grab-results.zip and can be added as an email attachment or uploaded to a forum post to assist with troubleshooting the issue at hand.
   • Clean: Performs an automated uninstallation of all Malwarebytes products installed to the computer and prompts to install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows afterwards. The Premium license key is backed up and reinstated. All user configurations and other data are removed. This process requires a reboot.
   •  Repair System: Includes various system-related repairs in case a Windows service is not functioning correctly that Malwarebytes for Windows is dependent on. It is not recommended to use any Repair System options unless instructed by a Malwarebytes Support agent.
   • Anonymously help the community by providing usage and threat statistics: Unchecking this option will prevent Malwarebytes Support Tool from sending anonymous telemetry data on usage of the program.
6. To provide logs for review click the Gather Logs button
7. Upon completion, click OK
8. A file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your Desktop
9. Please attach the file in your next reply.
10. To uninstall all Malwarebytes Products, click the Clean button.
11. Click the Yes button to proceed. 
12. Save all your work and click OK when you are ready to reboot.
13. After the reboot, you will have the option to re-install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows.
14. Select Yes to install Malwarebytes.
15. Malwarebytes for Windows will open once the installation completes successfully.

I haven't heard anything on the forums about it yet, however if you have a link to any official info about it from Microsoft so that they may see what the requirements and restrictions are, I can at least pass it on as a suggestion/request to the Product team for consideration.

Interesting, according to at least one of the articles you linked, what MS has done is simply open up the UWP interaction APIs for Win32 applications which, if I understand it correctly (I'm no developer), means that the application doesn't actually go into the MS store or natively run as a UWP app itself, but it can basically communicate/interface with a UWP app/component (I guess similar to how Malwarebytes currently uses its notification area icon and notifications, just using UWP instead).  Is that what you're asking for; just to have a UWP component to the program, or something else?

No my main question was about having Malwarebytes be an app on the microsoft store. With windows 10x coming potentially next year, I'm interested to see how microsoft will expand the app selections in their digital store.

I thought the articles were hinting to making it easier (or more accessible) for devs to submit their win32 apps to the store. My thought was that they were making all these APIs available more to win32 (bridging the gap between the two) so that these apps can eventually be put in the microsoft store. Not every developer was onboard to writing their apps for UWP.

I could be wrong though, I'm not a developer either.

I have not done any research... But if Win 10x is going to be on a device with an ARM processor, Malwarebytes currently run on ARM Processors.

Yeah, making a full anti-malware suite like Malwarebytes, or even an AV, compatible across platforms/operating systems likely wouldn't be feasible as the threats that target each platform are different as are the methods used to install and protect each type of platform/OS.  If MS allows developers to simply have their apps hosted in the store for users to download the same version which is currently available then it should be possible, however, for an app like Malwarebytes to be converted into a cross platform UWP app would be a completely different undertaking, likely requiring far more effort with a lot more risk for what might not be worth it just to be hosted on MS' store.  That's for the Product team and Developers to assess though, so I'll leave it to them and I'll submit your suggestion.

Also, just for future reference, product suggestions, feedback and feature requests for Malwarebytes should be posted here as this is the area for helping with product issues and questions.  It's no big deal though, and I'll be sure to submit your request to the appropriate teams.
