mikeprg.com opens on Chrome

Recommended Posts

The unwanted site mikeprg.com opens itself on a new tab with Chrome.

I checked the registry. There are no keys containing mikeprg / mikeprg.com
I turned off all application on Windows start.
I have no suspicious chrome extensions.
I reinstalled Chrome, deleted all history.
There are no additional parameters in chrome shortcut.
CCleander and ABWcleaner didn't find anything related.

I added the rule drivers/etc/hosts so the site doesn't load up, but the tab still appears anyway.

What else can I do? Please help! :(

Hello @userdei

I'm heading off to get some sleep, but please run the following and I will reply in the morning when I get up.

Please run the following steps and post back the logs as an attachment when ready.

  • If you're already running Malwarebytes then open Malwarebytes and check for updates. Then click on the Scan tab and select Threat Scan and click on Start Scan button.
  • If you don't have Malwarebytes installed yet please download it from here and install it.
  • Once installed then open Malwarebytes and select Scan and let it run.
  • Once the scan is completed click on the View Report button, then the Export button and save the file as a Text file to your desktop or other location you can find and attach that log on your next reply.
  • If Malwarebytes won't run then please skip to the next step and let me know in your next reply.

Please download AdwCleaner by Malwarebytes and save the file to your Desktop.

  • Right-click on the program and select RunAsAdmin.jpg Run as Administrator to start the tool.
  • Accept the Terms of use.
  • Wait until the database is updated.
  • Click Scan Now.
  • When finished, please click Clean & Repair.
  • Your PC should reboot now if any items were found.
  • After reboot, a log file will be opened. Attach or Copy its content into your next reply.

RESTART THE COMPUTER Before running Step 3

Please download the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens, click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press the Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it also makes another log (Addition.txt). If you've, run the tool before you need to place a checkmark here.
  • Please attach the Additions.txt log to your reply as well.

ABWcleaner didn't find anything.
Farbar Recovery stops responding during the scanning.
Any other ideas?

Maybe www.mikeprg.com should be add to to the Malwarebytes' base as a unwanted site, so it could block websites/apps/extensions related to it.

Why are you running in Safe Mode (with Networking)
Please run in Normal Windows Mode when running all scans unless requested otherwise.

Please see questions, notes below, but bottom line I really think your issue is within Google Chrome. Here is another link to help you clean up Chrome

Is this a Business Computer? I see the following IP which is valid but very rare to see outside of a business work computer.

I would recommend uninstalling Bonjour (not related to your issue, just noticed from logs)

What exactly is mDNSResponder.exe?

MDNSResponder, also known as Bonjour, is Apple’s native zero-configuration networking process for Mac that was ported over to Windows and associated with MDNSNSP.DLL.  On a Mac or iOS device, this program is used for networking nearly everything.  On Windows, this process is only necessary for sharing libraries via iTunes and other Mac applications like the Apple TV that were ported to Windows.  Bonjour allows different computers running iTunes to communicate with each other regardless of network configuration, this is because it enables automatic network discovery.

What Is mDNSResponder.exe / Bonjour and How Can I Uninstall or Remove It?

The following Event Log entry is also in your logs. You may want to review and see if you can correct this issue.

Name: Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265
Description: Karta Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7265
Class Guid: {4d36e972-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}
Manufacturer: Intel Corporation
Service: Netwtw04
Problem: : Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)
Resolution: The driver returned failure from its DriverEntry routine. Uninstall the driver, and then click "Scan for hardware changes" to reinstall or upgrade the driver.

Name: Realtek High Definition Audio
Description: Realtek High Definition Audio
Class Guid: {4d36e96c-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}
Manufacturer: Realtek
Service: IntcAzAudAddService
Problem: : This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)
Resolution: Update the driver

Most Experts no longer recommend using CCleaner - you may wish to review and make up your own mind

You have a runonce entry for Google Chrome (not sure it is or would cause or create an issue but you may want to consider disabling it at least for testing.
HKU\S-1-5-21-3187473328-1026473517-3968194347-1001\...\RunOnce: [Application Restart #0] => C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe  --flag-switches-begin --flag-switches-end --enable-audio-service-sandbox --restore-last-session

Thank you for the answer.
I run Farbar Recovery in a safe mode, because in the normal mode it stopped responding.

I've found and e-mail (Adnan Eren <adnaneren86 [at] hotmail.com>) of person responsible for mikeprg.com domain, wrote question how to stop it, that was the answer:
"We apologize for the inconvenience. Just removing the plugin prevents the tab from opening.".
I don't know which plugin, since all chrome extensions I have in Chrome are legit. I ask Adnan about it, waiting again or his answer.
I reinstalled Chrome after turning off the synchronization. It helped, but I suppose that after synchronizing it again the problem may come back.

After applying your tips I'll get back here.
Thanks for your help again!

No, it's a private PC, not used for any business purposes.
I don't recognize this I.P. My public I.P. is My Public IPv4 is: 155.xx.xx.33.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter, even though  the Farbar scan was conducted in the safe mode

Yes, I guarantee you that if you follow the directions posted in this URL it will fix the issue. Uninstalling alone as I'm sure you noticed did almost nothing as all your settings returned on their own.
You also need to delete the Sync on EVERY other device you use be it a computer or smart phone

You can attempt extension removal one by one if you like or all at once and see if it fixes it. Then reinstall one by one. Many extensions support some type of feature to save or export / import their settings.

Switching to another Browser is also highly recommended

The problem is gone. Thank you.

1. Sync turned off
2. Date on all devices cleaned.
3. Chrome reinstalled.

I couldn't solve those minor problems that you've mentioned before - with drivers for wi-fi and audio device - there are no new versions for those devices.
I also couldn't find the runonce key in registry, but I don't think that's important.
