PUP.OPTIONAL.LEGACY Again

Recommended Posts

Kevin,

if you read the Malwarebytes link you will find, as I did, that Simplitec is used by a programme called Magix, a music app. This app/programme I had on my computer until this morning as I have been unninstalling  programmes that I have downloaded in the past few months. Earlier this morning I uninstalled Magix and deleted whatever traces I could find in the registry.

Now I have just scanned twice with ADWCleaner and NOTHING. If I had not read the article in Malwarebytes forum I would not have made the connection between the two.

Hiya Riggy,

I actually saw the reference to Magix before you posted the link, that said Simplitec is also listed as a separate entity and does have its own website and download page

https://www.simplitec.com/

Whether the file or CLSID in question would be installed with Magix is not certain. i`ve just installed Magix earlier on a VM and the CLSID was not loaded with the software, maybe it depends where Magix is uploaded from. Either way the issue is cleared so you should be good to go. Need to clean up first...

To remove ESET do the following:

Type or copy paste %userprofile%\appdata\local into the search function, scroll to and delete ESET folder

Next,

Right click on FRST here: C:\Users\BuyFromUs\Desktop\FRST64.exe and rename uninstall.exe when complete right click on uninstall.exe and select "Run as Administrator"

If you do not see the .exe appended that is because file extensions are hidden, in that case just rename FRST64 to uninstall

That action will remove FRST and all created files and folders...
