Malwarebytes interferes with software named pipes

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I work for GEOSLOPE.  We are a software company that publishes geotechnical analysis software called GeoStudio:
https://www.geoslope.com/

We recently had a few support cases where our software was crashing on install and on opening.  During the course of resolving these cases, we were able to determine that your Malwarebytes software is interfering with our background processes establishing named pipes (please see attached).  Although we were able to resolve our customer's issues by setting up an exception in Malwarebytes, the preferable solution would be if your software didn't interfere to begin with.

Although this is not a false positive, this seemed like the most appropriate forum to notify you about the misbehavior of your software.  Please feel free to contact use if you require more information.  Please also notify us when this problem has been resolved.

Kind regards,
GEOSLOPE Support

I believe we excluded the following folders:

C:\Program Files\GEO-SLOPE
C:\Program Files (x86)\GEO-SLOPE

If it would help, you can download our software for free from our website and use it in the free student licensing mode.  This give full functionality without requiring a purchased license:

I was unable to recreate the issue. Could you have your client run our Malwarebytes Support Tool to gather some additional information using the instructions below? The Malwarebytes Support Tool automates the collection of troubleshooting information that helps us determine the cause of the issue you're experiencing.
  1. Download and run the https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/mbst
  2. Click Advanced on the left menu
  3. Click Gather Logs
  4. The log collection will begin, this can take up to 15 minutes. You will see a confirmation when it has completed.
  5. Please locate the file mbst-grab-results.zip on the Desktop and attach it as a reply to this post.

Hi Dave.  I've asked our client to gather the logs you've requested.  Once I have those, I'll attach to this post.
