Cannot use Malwarebytes with Windows 10 May Feature update.

Recommended Posts

As soon as Malwarebytes 4.1 loads with the Windows 10 2004 feature update installed today my system comes to a halt. It only happens if I install Malwarebytes. Am I the only one having this issue?

The system would not let me edit my post. All four of my AMD computers are not usable with Malwarebytes after this months feature update. I can try to open task manager but it takes almost 5 minutes to get it open.

Hi,     :welcome:
My name is Maurice. I will be helping and guiding you, going forward on this case.
Let me know what first name you prefer to go by.

I am sorry to read of your trouble.  Be sure to tell me if you saw any sort of "error message" or such.

Please follow my directions as we go along.  Please do not do any changes on your own without first checking with me.
If you will be away for more than 3 consecutive days,  do try to let me know ahead of time, as much as possible.

Please only just attach   all report files, etc  that I ask for as we go along.

I would appreciate  getting some key details from this machine in order to help you forward.
NOTE: The tools and the information obtained is safe and not harmful to your privacy or your computer, please allow the programs to run if blocked by your system.

Do have patience while the report tool runs.  It may take several minutes.  Just let it run & take its time.  You may want to close your other open windows so that there is a clear field of view.
Download Malwarebytes Support Tool

Once the file is downloaded, open your Downloads folder/location of the downloaded file
Double-click mb-support-1.6.1.784.exe  to run the report
You may be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent.

Place a checkmark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next
Now click the left-hand side pane "I do not have an open support ticket"

You will be presented with a page stating, "Get Started!"
Do NOT use the button “Start repair” !   But look instead at the far-left options list in black.

Click the Advanced tab on the left column

    Click the Gather Logs button

A progress bar will appear and the program will proceed with getting logs from your computer.  Please do have patience.  It takes several minutes to gather.

Upon completion, click a file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your Desktop. Click OK
Please attach the ZIP file in your next reply.

Please know I help here as a volunteer.  and that I am not on 24 x 7.
Help on this forum is one to one.   Again, please be sure to ONLY attach report files  with your reply (s)  as we go along.  Do not do a copy / paste into main body.
Thank you,
Sincerely.

I will try soon. I'm working all day. Luckily others are posting about this too. This is happening to me on a fresh install of Windows with all Windows updates provided and only Malwarebytes installed. It happens to the other 6 computers I have up now but they have all kinds of junk installed.

Thanks for helping.

Take your time as needed.   No rush.   Just keep in mind that not all cases are the same root causes.   There are different situations.

I will guide you along,   and lets only work on one computer at a time.   Do not be doing 6 at once.

After you get back home & are rested up,   you can resume this case.

By the way, just FYI,  2 of the cases I am handling are due to riskware virus infections.   Your case is likely different and that is why I look forward to your report file.

again ....no rush.

Cheers.

Maurice

Good morning.   Just checking in on you.   How are things ?

Having reports from the machine will help us to help you.

One  run with the Malwarebytes Support tool    https://support.malwarebytes.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039023453-Upload-Malwarebytes-Support-Tool-logs-offline

and one other report:

You should use a tool-applet named Speccy  to see what it can tell about the hardware system.

  • Please download Speccy from here and run the installer
  • Be sure to uncheck any checkboxes for any offers for any browsers, toolbars, or anything else it might ask to install other than the program itself (let us know if you have any trouble, and take a screenshot of the page of the installer where you're stuck and post it in your reply before proceeding if necessary)
  • Click on the Customize link in the installer and select the options you desire for icons and whether you want Speccy to inform you of updates (I recommend unchecking this option)
  • Once the installer completes, uncheck the box to view the release notes and click the Run Speccy button
  • Once the program starts it will analyze your system, please be patient as it may take a few moments to complete.
  • Once it finishes and none of the areas say Analyzing click on the File button at the top and select Save Snapshot...
  • Save the file to your desktop and click Ok to confirm; you may now close Speccy and uninstall it if you do not wish to keep it
  • Go to your desktop and right click on the file you just created and hover over Send to and select Compressed (zipped) Folder
  • Please attach the zip file you just created to your next post

Also, know that Microsoft has identified a few problem drivers / hardware on some systems that upgrade to Windows 10  May 2020  build 2004.

You should look at the list

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-information/status-windows-10-2004#425msgdesc

It includes some Intel iGPU devices, some Conexant brand audio drivers, some Nvidia display drivers  [the affected drivers are any version lower than 358.00.]

Do review the list.

and check with your computer manufacturer for the latest drivers for your hardware.   That is always best practice prior to a Windows OS upgrade.

Another area for checking,  is the Windows 10 Fast Startup.   If it is on that can cause issues.

See the MS support article Updates May Not be Installed with Fast Startup in Windows 10.

Sincerely,
