Hi,

Thanks for posting in the Malwarebytes for Windows Help forum.

If you are having technical issues with our Windows product, please do the following:

Malwarebytes Support Tool - Advanced Options

This feature is designed for the following reasons:

  • For use when you are on the forums and need to provide logs for assistance
  • For use when you don't need or want to create a ticket with Malwarebytes
  • For use when you want to perform local troubleshooting on your own

How to use the Advanced Options:

Spoiler
  1. Download Malwarebytes Support Tool
  2. Double-click mb-support-X.X.X.XXXX.exe to run the program
    • You may be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent.
  3. Place a checkmark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next
  4. Navigate to the Advanced tab
  5. The Advanced menu page contains four categories:
    • Gather Logs: Collects troubleshooting information from the computer. As part of this process, Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) is run to perform a complete diagnosis. The information is saved to a file on the Desktop named mbst-grab-results.zip and can be added as an email attachment or uploaded to a forum post to assist with troubleshooting the issue at hand.
    • Clean: Performs an automated uninstallation of all Malwarebytes products installed to the computer and prompts to install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows afterwards. The Premium license key is backed up and reinstated. All user configurations and other data are removed. This process requires a reboot.
    •  Repair System: Includes various system-related repairs in case a Windows service is not functioning correctly that Malwarebytes for Windows is dependent on. It is not recommended to use any Repair System options unless instructed by a Malwarebytes Support agent.
    • Anonymously help the community by providing usage and threat statistics: Unchecking this option will prevent Malwarebytes Support Tool from sending anonymous telemetry data on usage of the program.
  6. To provide logs for review click the Gather Logs button
  7. Upon completion, click OK
  8. A file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your Desktop
  9. Please attach the file in your next reply.
  10. To uninstall all Malwarebytes Products, click the Clean button.
  11. Click the Yes button to proceed.
  12. Save all your work and click OK when you are ready to reboot.
  13. After the reboot, you will have the option to re-install the latest version of Malwarebytes for Windows.
  14. Select Yes to install Malwarebytes.
  15. Malwarebytes for Windows will open once the installation completes successfully.

Greetings,

Unfortunately the HOSTS files and databases at hosts-file.net are no longer being maintained, however Malwarebytes does make available the free Malwarebytes Browser Guard for Chromium based browsers (for example Chrome, the new MS Edge Chromium, SRWare Iron, Opera etc.) as well as Mozilla Firefox.  It blocks ads, trackers, scams, malware and many other online threats.  If you are a user of Malwarebytes Premium then you also benefit from the Web Protection function which blocks malicious sites and servers for the entire system and it also works with Malwarebytes Browser Guard.

You may also find the information in this topic to be beneficial if you seek tools and information on keeping your system free of malware.

I hope this helps and if there is anything else we might assist you with please let us know.

Thanks

Hi,

Too bad the lists are no longer shared. Is malwarebytes feeding to any other published hosts files?

Thanks,

W.

PS: Using closed source solutions to keep you safe is a contradiction in term. So, no thanks, I will not be using malwarebytes software for any purpose.

Of course you have the right to your own opinion, however I must strongly disagree on this point.  No commercial antivirus or anti-malware vendors make their products open source, though Malwarebytes always has provided threat detection and removal for free, and of course Malwarebytes Browser Guard is being offered for free as well.  Whether or not you choose to use any or none of the provided solutions is up to you, however I would be curious as to what, if any security software (AV, firewall etc., if any) you are running which is open source, because I am not aware of too many other than Clamwin/ClamAV and a handful of others based on the same source.

Additionally, Malwarebytes Browser guard displays block information in its menu/icon and also displays a redirect page when blocking a connection to a website that is blocked by its rules and you are able to add any sites you choose to its allow list (the same goes for the Web Protection function in Malwarebytes), so if anything is blocked which you do not want to be, you can easily allow/exclude it so you still have full control over what it does and does not block.  Malwarebytes Browser Guard also includes settings for each individual category of detection type so that you may modify its behavior in any number of ways to control what types of content it will and will not block.

I would also mention that while I have long been an advocate and user of large HOSTS files as an additional layer of defense (my last HOSTS file had nearly 1 million entries in it; the result of compiling numerous public HOSTS files and block lists along with many additions of my own), I no longer use one as I have found that not only are they not updated nearly as frequently as is required to stay on top of the latest threats, ads or any other such content which changes over time (especially now with the bad guys swapping domains rapidly and even using semi-randomly named variants to evade such block lists; something the behavior based blocking capabilities which are only possible within the browser itself via an extension and have been developed as components of Malwarebytes Browser Guard can overcome), but also that Windows 10 does not allow easily disabling the DNS Client service which means the system and connection may be brought to a crawl if a large enough HOSTS file is used.  Of course if the HOSTS file you are using isn't too large then it shouldn't make too much difference keeping the service enabled; I just know that I've always had to disable it on my own systems due to the enormous size of the HOSTS file I was using.

Don't know if this is still relevant, or maybe other people are searching for this blocklist.

You can find a backup of this list in the same format here:

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/klekxos/host-file.net-backup/master/ad_servers.txt

It is not updated anymore. So essentially useless.
