Blocked websites

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I recently had some virus, I think I removed all off them by fully scan with Malwarebytes and  ESET NOD32 and CCleaner, that have come back completely clean. However, while browsing in Chrome, periodically I will get a pop up notification from Malwarebytes saying that it blocked access to a website (entry).

The websites blocked are all random and don't look like anything I would voluntarily be going to - so I'm not sure how to stop this.

Here is the last report...

Thanks for any help that you can offer!

Be sure to Save the file first, to your system.  Saving to the Downloads folder should be the default on your system.

Go to the folder where you saved Adwcleaner. Double click Adwcleaner  to start it.

At the prompt for license agreement, review and then click on I agree.

You will then see a main screen for Adwcleaner. ( if you do not see it right away, minimized the other open windows, so you can see Adwcleaner).

Then click on Dashboard button.

Please find and send the Adwcleaner "C" clean report.

In Adwcleaner, click the "Reports" button.  Look at the list of reports for the latest date & type "Clean".

Double Click that line & it will open in Notepad.   Save the file to your system and then Attach that with your reply.

Thanks for the report from Adwcleaner.    A good result.   It only found 2 inert registry leftovers of some P U P  types.    As in Potentially Unwanted Application(s).

How is the present situation ?

.

[    1    ]

There is one setting in Malwarebytes that needs to be off.   So that the Microsoft Windows Defender is all enabled.   The Premium ( or trial ) protections of Malwarebytes will still be on.
Start Malwarebytes. Click Settings ( gear ) icon. Next, lets make real sure that Malwarebytes does NOT register with Windows Security Center
Click the Security Tab. Scroll down to
"Windows Security Center"
Click the selection to the left  for the line "Always register Malwarebytes in the Windows Security Center".
Close Malwarebytes when done.

The Microsoft Safety Scanner  is a free Microsoft stand-alone virus scanner that  can be used to scan for & remove malware or potentially unwanted software from a system.
The download links & the how-to-run-the tool are at this link at Microsoft
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security/threat-protection/intelligence/safety-scanner-download

Let me know the result of this.
The log is named MSERT.log
the log will be at  %SYSTEMROOT%\debug\msert.log   which in most cases is
C:\Windows\debug\msert.log
Please attach that log with your reply.

SecurityCheck by glax24

I would like you to run a tool named SecurityCheck to inquire on the current-security-update  status  of some applications.
Download SecurityCheck by glax24 from here
and save the tool on the desktop.

If Windows's  SmartScreen block that with a message-window, then
Click on the MORE INFO spot and over-ride that and allow it to proceed.
This tool is safe.   Smartscreen is overly sensitive.

Right-click  with your mouse on the Securitycheck.exe  and select "Run as administrator"   and reply YES to allow to run & go forward
Wait for the scan to finish. It will open in a text file named SecurityType.txt. Close the file.  Attach it with your next reply.
You can find this file in a folder called SecurityCheck, C:\SecurityCheck\SecurityCheck.txt

Hi.

There is a strong cautionary note by SecurityCheck tool.

Security Task Manager 2.3e v.2.3e Warning! Suspected demo version of anti-spyware or optimizer. If this program is not familiar to you it is recommended to uninstall it.

You said there were 3 block events.   I really truly need to see all the details of those.

.

Now a custom script to use the FRST tool to cleanup a lot of tasks that have no associated file or information.

Please Close and Save any open work you may have open.
Please close as many un-needed app-windows that you yourself may have open at this point.   So you can have a clear field of view.

This custom script is for  Royalflusher    only / for this machine only.
Close and save any open work files before starting this procedure.

Please Close and save any open work files before you start this next step.  It will involve a Windows Restart at the end of it.
I am sending a   custom Fix script which is going to be used by the FRSTENGLISH tool. They will both work together as a pair.

Please RIGHT-click the (attached file named) FIXLIST and select SAVE  link AS and save it directly ( as is) to the  Downloads  folder

The tool named FRSTENGLISH.exe   tool    is already on the Downloads folder
Start the Windows Explorer and then, to the Downloads folder.

RIGHT click on  FRSTENGLISH    and select RUN as Administrator and allow it to proceed.  Reply YES when prompted to allow to run.
to run the tool. If the tool warns you the version is outdated, please download and run the updated version.
IF Windows prompts you about running this, select YES to allow it to proceed.

IF you get a block message from Windows about this tool......
click line More info information on that screen
and click button Run anyway on next screen.

on the FRSTENGLISH window:
Click the Fix button just once, and wait.

frst-fix.jpg.f6a25291b39a03d418acc9a3b7136900.jpg

PLEASE have lots and lots of patience when this starts. You will see a green progress bar start. Lots of patience. This run here should be fairly quick.
If you receive a message that a reboot is required, please make sure you allow it to restart normally.
The tool will complete its run after restart.
When finished, the tool will make a log ( Fixlog.txt) in the same location from where it was run.

Please attach the FIXLOG.txt with your next reply later, at your next opportunity

Keep going down this list.

[   2   ]

open your Downloads folder.   You already have the Malwarebytes Support tool
Double-click mb-support-1.6.1.784.exe  to run the report

Thanks for the report & block event reports & the Fixlog log.

The IP addresses blocked   are IP: 85.143.221.117      Port number attempt    50163

IP: 122.228.19.79      Port number attempted   30938

IP: 85.143.221.117    Port number attempted    59813

IP: 51.89.125.118     Port number attempted    62239

As you can see, the probes are coming from different IP addresses  AND  they try to probe "in"  trying different port numbers to your machine.

.

The Malwarebytes "Trial" of the Premium mode ends 14 days after the install.   I believe this here will end the trial on the 19th or so.   If you want the Premium protection you should consider getting the Premium license,  and also at that time get the license also for the Malwarebytes PRIVACY  which has a VPN software module.

Read more about it here   https://www.malwarebytes.com/vpn

There is a Buy link at the top  as well as information about it.   One Premium license will cover 5 devices..

.

You could add the IP addresses above to your Windows Firewall block list  but the probes in future would likely be from different ( new ) addresses.

and disabling port numbers could just as well be a endless exercise.

I  would recommend that if you have a internet-connection-router hardware at home,  that you look over this article
"How to Enable Your Wireless Router's Built-in Firewall"
https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-enable-your-wireless-routers-built-in-firewall-2487668

.

Now then,  lets do one special scan with Malwarebytes for Windows  just to recheck the system.

Run a scan with Malwarebytes.
Start Malwarebytes from the Windows  Start menu.

Click Settings ( gear icon)   at the top right of Malwarebytes window.   We want to see the SETTINGS window.

Then click the SECURITY  tab.
Scroll down and lets be sure the line in SCAN OPTIONs for "Scan for rootkits" is ON
Click it to get it ON  if it does not show a blue-color

Now click the small X  to get back to the main menu window.

Click the SCAN button.
Select a Threat Scan ( which should be the default).

When the scan phase is done, be real sure you Review and have all detected lines items check-marked on each line on the left. That too is very critical.

Then click on Quarantine selected.

Be sure all items were removed.
Let it remove what it has detected.

Hi.   OK,  that is good news.

I would suggest that you do a scan with a scan tool from ESET  to just only scan the C drive.

I would suggest a free scan with the ESET Online Scanner

Go to https://www.eset.com/us/home/online-scanner/

Look on the right side of the page.  Click Scan Now

It will start a download of "esetonlinescanner_enu.exe"

Save the file to your system, such as the Downloads folder, or else to the Desktop.

Go to the saved file, and double click it to get it started.

When presented with the initial ESET options, click on "Computer Scan".

Next, when prompted by Windows, allow it to start by clicking Yes

When prompted for scan type, Click on Custom scan    ( the choice on far-right side)

We want just the C drive to be scanned.

In the display "Select custom scan targets"  keep the top 3 lines ticked,  plus the one for the C drive   ( which should be your Windows drive)

UN-tick the other drives   ( D, E, F,   etc...)

Then click on the blue button "Save and continue"

Leave as is   the radio selection "Disable ESET to detect and quarantine potentially unwanted applications"   and click on Start scan button.

Have patience.  The entire process may take an hour or more. There is an initial update download.

There is a progress window display.

You should ignore all prompts to get the ESET antivirus software program.   ( e.g.  their standard program).   You do not need to buy or get or install anything else.

When the scan is completed, if something was found, it will show a screen with the number of detected items.  If so, click the button marked “View detected results”.

Click The blue “Save scan log” to save the log.  Look for it on the bottom left, in bleu.

If something was removed and you know it is a false finding, you may click on the blue ”Restore cleaned files”  ( in blue, at bottom).

Press Continue when all done.  You should click to off the offer for “periodic scanning”.

The goal here is to see if there are suspicious or actual threats on the C drive.

[     2     ]

I would suggest  to upgrade to the Windows 10 build 1909 ( or November 2019 build) or a later build if offered.  You should be able to manually get it thru Windows Update.

It may take repeated tries with Windows Update till your pc is able to see that Update.  You should make a try each day, from here on out, till you see it offered.

The suggestion I have is to go to the Start menu, click the Windows Settings icon. Select Update & Security.  Click on Windows Update.

The Windows Update ( eventually) will have a display like this when it shows up.

Note that the display will show the new build in a new way, in the middle of the display.  You will need to click on the blue line marked "Download and install now"  when ready.

image.png.e3e8d889fe4106af43e0de32fb3d5183.png

Getting that Windows build update will put this pc in a better position for a more secure operating system.

Did that block prevent you from doing something ?

The Block is on this IP address  85.143.221.117

The web protection is keeping your machine safe from harm.   The block does not  imply that there is a issue on your machine itself.

The web protection is doing its job.   If you prefer, the onscreen notices can be turned off.

.

I  would recommend that if you have a internet-connection-router hardware at home,  that you look over this article

"How to Enable Your Wireless Router's Built-in Firewall"

https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-enable-your-wireless-routers-built-in-firewall-2487668

.

For Your Information:

The Block notices from Malwarebytes web protection do mean that Malwarebytes Premium is keeping your pc safe from potential harm.

A block notice is an advisory of the "block".   The web protection has STOPPED any potential harm.

It  indicates that a potential risk was blocked by the malicious website protection.

The Malwarebytes web protection, by default, will always show each  block occurrence.

The Malwarebytes Webs protection feature will advise customers when a known or suspected malicious IP is attempted to be reached (outgoing) or is trying access your PC.

See our info page https://www.malwarebytes.com/lp/ip-blocking/?ipblock=true

Incoming block notice can be ignored, our software is blocking the threat and there is nothing more that can be done.

On Outbound blocks, any attempted connection was stopped.

The probes may well continue.   Attempted probes can occur without any involvement on your part.

The "trial" mode's   real time protection stopped any connection.

You should consider buying a Premium license of Malwarebytes.   If you have other Windows pc, or Android,  or Mac OS X or Chromeboook, buy as many seats as you have devices.

Oh that's some bad news,

I was looking for some help to clean my pc, cuz I was thinking this blocked websites was something that wasn't supposed to happen if the pc was completly brand new and clean, but you are telling me that this is a normal thing and everyone, including you, get those on a daily... and the only way to don't get them is if I have malwarebytes premium?

That doesn't seem right.

I am not getting those events.

The probes are things that occur all the time.   There is nothing on your box that is any infection.   The probes are EXTERNAL   and they were STOPPED by the web protection of Malwarebytes for Windows.

.

To check your system with Malwarebytes for Windows do this scan.

Start Malwarebytes from the Windows  Start menu.
Click Settings ( gear icon)   at the top right of Malwarebytes window.   We want to see the SETTINGS window.
Then click the Security tab.   Look for the section "Automatic Quarantine".   Be sure it is clicked On   ( to the far right side)

Scroll down and lets be sure the line in SCAN OPTIONs for "Scan for rootkits" is ON
Click it to get it ON  if it does not show a blue-color

Then scroll down to the section Potentially Unwanted items.   We need the next 2 lines   ( for P U P  & for P U  M)  to be set to "Always ( Recommended) ".
You can make the change by clicking on the down-arrow selection list-control.   We want all P U P  &  P U M to be marked for removal.

Next, click the small x on the Settings line   to go to the main Malwarebytes Window.
Next click the blue button marked Scan.
When the scan phase is done, be real sure you Review and have all detected lines items check-marked on each line on the left. That too is very critical.
Then click on Quarantine selected.

Then, locate the Scan run report;  export out a copy;  & then attach in with your  reply.

I  refer you to this article at Malwarebytes Support

I am listing below information provided from before, as well as some protective actions you can take.

I  would recommend that if you have a internet-connection-router hardware at home,  that you look over this article

"How to Enable Your Wireless Router's Built-in Firewall"

https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-enable-your-wireless-routers-built-in-firewall-2487668

There is no actual "on-bard" booger on your computer.

You may also turn Off the visual screen notification since the real-time protections  will still be protecting the system.

Start Malwarebytes.   Click Settings ( gear icon at the top )

Click the Notifications tab.

Look for "Show all notifications in the Windows notification area"   and click that to the Left.   That is to set that to Off position.

The real-time web protection and the real-time anti-malware will still be protecting your system.
