PUP.Optional.Mailru virus

Recommended Posts

I had recently ran malwarebytes and  it detected almost 10 results with the name PUP.Optional.Mailru. So I put the files to quarantine, but when I rescanned it, it comes back, I repeated the proccess for about 3 times and nothing changed. So I went to the location of the files it detected and deleted them manually. Then I reopened chrome then rescanned it again, it detected nothing. I just want to make sure that the malware is completely gone and if theres a way to do so I would appreciate any help.

Please run the following steps and post back the logs as an attachment when ready.

  • If you don't have Malwarebytes installed yet please download it from here and install it.
  • Once installed then open Malwarebytes and select Scan and let it run.
  • Once the scan is completed click on the View Report button, then the Export button and save the file as a Text file to your desktop or other location you can find and attach that log on your next reply.
  • If Malwarebytes won't run then please skip to the next step and let me know in your next reply.

STEP 02

Please download AdwCleaner by Malwarebytes and save the file to your Desktop.

STEP 03
Please download the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens, click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press the Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it also makes another log (Addition.txt). If you've, run the tool before you need to place a checkmark here.
  • Please attach the Additions.txt log to your reply as well.

Thanks

The use of file-sharing software greatly increases the risk of infecting your computer and possibly losing your data. I would recommend that you reconsider using such software.

The act of torrenting itself is not illegal. However, downloading and sharing unsanctioned copyrighted material is very much illegal, and there is always a chance of getting caught by the authorities.
Torrenting non-copyrighted material is perfectly fine and is allowed. In many countries including the US, the Government and ISP often work together to catch people distributing unsanctioned material.

Your Event Logs indicate your computer has this issue. The following is a possible fix or solution.

Fix Tilerepository error

Just a couple of minor things left. Please run the following fix.

Please download the attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop.
NOTE. It's important that both files, FRST or FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on this particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system.

Run FRST or FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait.
If the tool needs a restart please make sure you let the system restart normally and let the tool complete its run after restart.
The tool will make a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please attach or post it to your next reply.

Note: If the tool warned you about an outdated version please download and run the updated version.

May I ask... Do I need to goto the site (https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/event-viewer-erro-esent-455-since-update-1903/624a2548-06e5-47f4-bb99-76d6412895a0) and follow the instruction there? OR apply the attached fixlist only? OR both?

These are 2 different fixes.

If  you've run the FRST fix, please go ahead and post that log back.

You do not have to go visit the other site and fix this. I noticed it in your logs and it is not a critical issue with the computer so it's up to you if you want to fix it or not

The scans cannot typically detect hardware failure issues beyond a possible bad driver or missing driver. It does not do hardware analysis

There are various ways that the mail ru entry can be added to a system. Generally for most users a basic review and clean up of their Google Chrome browser will remove the issue. But for some others it's a more complex issue.

Please go ahead and restart the computer. Then run a new scan with Malwarebytes and post back the new log
