GaryE Posted May 7, 2020 ID:1379490 Share Posted May 7, 2020 I am experiencing what I believe is the same or a similar problem - Malwarebytes Pro Web Protection interferes with Internet traffic. Example, Youtube.com pages load very slowly; videos take minutes to start and then stutter. Another example is pinging google.com, which times out. If I disable Web Protection, the problems disappear. Youtube pages load immediately and videos play immediately with no stuttering. Also, see the ping results below. The first ping command was executed with Web Protection enabled; the second, with Web Protection disabled. (In case it's useful information, the ping google.com command succeeds with Web Protection enabled if I force IPv4, i.e., ping google.com -4.) I have the same experience on all four of my Windows 10 computers. Two are recent, clean installs. Two are connected via 1Gbps cable, the other two wireless. I am running Norton Security in parallel with Malwarebytes - and have been for years, with never a problem until recently. Please help! It'll be easier just not to renew. Bye! PS: I did give you a clue - YOUR problem, not mine on four different computers, might be related to IPv6

GaryE Posted May 7, 2020 Author ID:1379526 Share Posted May 7, 2020 Sorry to be snarky, but I was upset because I had already spent hours determining the source of my connectivity problems. No excuse, but I offer my apology. Digging more deeply into the forum, it seems that this is a known, acknowledged problem, with a fix apparently in process. This is true. The only workaround is to keep web protection off or revert to an earlier version that does not have the issue. You also have the option of reverting to an earlier component package version, which will allow you to keep Web Protection enabled. You can download this from here: https://malwarebytes.box.com/s/z6cravnwptrzx5tyjw36jq6zt6c7apsxOnce installed, you will need to disable the two update options found in Settings -> General -> Application updates to prevent the product from updating back to the affected version. I suggest using the following clean install guide. Please do the following Uninstall and reinstall using the Malwarebytes Support Tool Please have lots of patience with the tool. The first phase is a cleanup and does require a Windows Restart. After the Restart, it may take 2 - 3 - 4 minutes till the Support tool screen shows up. Please be patient and have faith. Wait for it, whatever it takes. The 2nd phase is where it offers to do a new Install. Say no and use the download from my above link and install the old version and disable the update before you do anything else.
Root Admin AdvancedSetup Posted May 7, 2020 Root Admin ID:1379564 Share Posted May 7, 2020 Thank you for your reply and feedback @GaryE Yes, IPv6 is a known issue and we can duplicate it. Hoping to have an update to correct that in the near future if possible. The slow DNS or lagging with audio distortion have various different causes. Obtaining logs from you may help as the majority of users don't experience this issue so finding a common cause by reviewing multiple logs helps us. It's sort of like going to a doctor. If you have something wrong but only a handful of people in society have that issue and no one wants to allow the doctor to take test and analyze the data then finding a cure will obviously take much longer. If you do decide you'd like to help please let us know, otherwise please follow the directions from @Porthos to help prevent the issue until there is a released fix. Thank you again

I noticed that the IPv6 problem has apparently come and gone previously. It also seems that this occurrence has been lingering for months. Can you be more specific regarding a potential fix? "If possible" is not very encouraging. 😞 On February 3, AdvancedSetup posted here that the then latest beta release should address the problem - that's three months ago. Does the current beta release address the problem? Regarding your second point above, I'm 99.9% certain that my issues (on four Windows 10 systems) are all IPv6 related. In any event, disabling Web Protection resolves all connectivity issues. No audio issues here. Thanks.
Root Admin AdvancedSetup Posted May 8, 2020 Root Admin ID:1379916 Share Posted May 8, 2020 I'm sorry but I don't work in Development so why the IPv6 issue resurfaced or wasn't fully corrected I'm not sure. Poor choice of wording on my part for possible. I'm sure they will get if fixed but I don't have a time table on when that is. Thank you again
GaryE Posted May 8, 2020 Author ID:1379920 Share Posted May 8, 2020 AdvancedSetup, do you whether the current beta is supposed to address the IPv6 issue? Thank you.
Root Admin AdvancedSetup Posted May 8, 2020 Root Admin ID:1379927 Share Posted May 8, 2020 I actually disable IPv6 on my own computer because currently many applications are not fully compliant and there are sometimes escapes of your local IP even over VPN. I'm sure this will be sorted out more and more over time though. I do know that some co-workers do use IPv6 and have confirmed the issue is still present. I don't have an exact date but I believe they are working on a new beta currently that is supposed to address Web Protection issues. I'm sorry but I can only go by what information is provided to me which sometimes to my chagrin when it does come out it does not address what was previously passed on to me.
