Freezing/stuttering and slow DNS

Recommended Posts

Hello, post #1 for me.  I'm desperate, but also very happy to have found this forum from online searching.

And "big" OMG, thank you to the original post.

I have the exact same symptom as described there including the screens freezing/stuttering, network freezing/stuttering.  And my symptom started ONLY AFTER i took in Windows 1909 updates on Apr 17, 2020 Friday.

I've been racking my brains since then, mostly living with this CRAZY stuttering, freezing behaviors while working from home during this crazy time we are all in.

Due to work craziness, i couldn't spend time with any isolation's until now, came down to NordVPN and Malwarebytes.  I disabled both.  And behavior totally went away for over 2 days.

And today decided to pick Malwarebytes and started it.  And sure enough, symptoms ALL CAME BACK.  At this point i wasn't sure what i can do since I NEED MALWAREBYTES to run next to the Windows Security.  There was reason why i ditched McAfee two years ago (after being with them for over 5 years) to go to Malwarebytes to protect all my home systems, Windows and Mac devices.

After reading this thread i have immediately disabled Web Protection also, and so far after few hours, symptoms have not returned.

But now i'm without the protections that this feature provides.  :(

Meantime i will try the following workaround, thank you!

Please Malwarebytes, please have this issue fixed.

What can i do to help also?

You may have to keep it off until the issue is fixed. In the meantime, Malwarebytes can take care most of the functions of web protections at least for you supported browser.

You should definitely install Malwarebytes Browser Guard, assuming the web browser you use is compatible with it (any browsers based on Chromium should support it, as does Mozilla Firefox).  Additionally, I highly recommend reviewing our Tips to help protect from infection as there is a lot of good info there on how to stay safe online.

Ok will do.

I use 80% Chrome, and 20% mix of Firefox and Microsoft (new) Edge (Chromium based).

Hello @gixxerbwm and :welcome:

Please try the following STEPS

Please do the following Uninstall and reinstall Malwarebytes using the Malwarebytes Support Tool

Please have lots of patience with the tool.  The first phase is a cleanup and does require a Windows Restart.
After the Restart, it may take 2 - 3 - 4 minutes till the Support tool screen shows up.   Please be patient and have faith.  Wait for it, whatever it takes.
The 2nd phase is where it offers to do a new Install.

Let us know if that clears up the issue or not.

If STEP 1 did not help then please restart the computer and  proceed to STEP 2 so that we can get logs to help us determine the cause

When the issue occurs, do you have a VPN or any other network filtering software enabled (besides Malwarebytes)?
Does this issue consistently present itself when Web Protection is enabled?
Does the issue occur when you are not using Bittorent, qBittorrent, or any other P2P torrent software?

We're in need of additional information to help narrow down the cause of this issue.
Part of this process will involve manually triggering a crash to obtain a memory dump, which will hopefully show what the Web Protection driver is doing to cause this issue. You can read more about this process here.

Once you've reproduced the issue and are actively experiencing it, force a crash by pressing the following keys at the same time: Left Ctrl+Left Alt+U+U.

After the machine has rebooted, you should find a memory dump named MEMORY.dmp in C:\Windows. Please zip this up and provide it to us.

Please follow the directions from the following topic:  Upload Malwarebytes Support Tool logs offline and upload that new log as well on your next reply

Thank you

please follow my last directions above so that we can look into this further.

Will do.

The ETA on that ask will probably be in next few weeks given my current load at work, but as soon as i find some opening to get these data to you i will.

I would prefer to have the whole real-time protection be usable again, and looking forward to that asap.

It seems that the latest Malwarebytes update Update (package 1.0.23578 Component package 1.0.896) resolves this problem. I have installed the update on several affected PCs and haven't had this problem all day.

I checked to see if the issue was fixed with servative saying his issues were resolved but my computer started lagging after about 1 hour of web protection on. Unfortunately, my issue is still active!

Same here with latest Update package version and Component package version.  My symptom recurs after few hours of use (almost feel like some sort of resource leakage going on), so my issue also still remain active.

Still planning to provide support requested data collections.  Please stand by.

I stumbled across your topic. Where are we at? You never finished by posting the logs from the last step.

Please follow the directions from the following topic:  Upload Malwarebytes Support Tool logs offline and upload that new log as well on your next reply
