Survey popped up claiming to come from Malwarebytes

Recommended Posts

I've just had a very odd occurrence.  I got a popup claiming to come from Malwarebytes asking me to give opinions about the service and ways it can be improved.  I was happy to do so - I use the service and find it generally useful but with some glitches.  But after one question, it switched to a Survey Monkey survey about opinions about UK politics.  Again, I don't mind... but afterwards I began to wonder whether this is correct behaviour, and whether in fact one or other survey may have been some kind of malware?  The opinion survey ended with a request for some fairly fine-grained demographic information, which didn't feel quite right.  Can anyone from MWB reassure me?  And if not, does anyone know what kind of nasty may be at play here?  thanks for any advice.

It is real and legit. It shows up  primarily on the free version and other messages will pop up in the future.

Hi @seglea,

Thank you for sharing your findings.

The Malwarebytes survey you took only comprised of one page of questions. After you completed the survey, you were likely taken to a different Survey Monkey landing page which contained an unrelated survey that isn't associated with Malwarebytes. What you saw regarding UK politics, etc is not related to Malwarebytes.

We're looking further into this.

It's just the way that Survey Monkey works, I've seen it numerous times.

After you have completed a survey it often loads a different, unrelated, survey to try and get you 'involved'.
If you are not interested then just close it.

Just had this happen to me. Please stop instigating these unnecessary pop-ups. It is irresponsible at this time with so many scams rife on the internet. I also use Norton and they try pop-ups now and again but at least you can close the pop-up window from the taskbar. I couldn't do that with the Malwarebytes survey and in the end had to close down windows and restart to get rid of the pop-up without clicking on it. Just stop it! Or at least make it possible to close the window from the taskbar. You may think this is paranoia gone mad - maybe so - but it's better than one day clicking on the wrong pop-up. As a security company you should know that.
