I suspect system requirements will be a big issue from both sides. Some users, such as myself actually desire the scalability of an operating system that will utilize 8GB of ram or more and do so efficiently, while others (albeit many others) desire an operating system that doesn't require a supercomputer just to be able to boot up. Supposedly Windows 7 gets much closer to this idea, and I believe that Microsoft intends to continue that trend, especially after what happened with Vista. They want light, but powerful, secure, but full of features.
