Please Help - suspected Trojan

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I’m stumped with a problem and I am hoping you maybe someone is able to assist.

i have a dell Xps 15 laptop running windows 10 64. Good laptop but I think it’s infected with something. No internet pops up whilst online. Suddenly runs slow. Fans running heavily with little use, randomly turns itself on whilst shut down. And now I can no longer open malwarebytes. Downloaded chameleon and can’t run any of them. Can’t download any new antivirus programs they all cut out or have errors installing.
Hitman pro found nothing.

any help would be amazing! As all paths lead to using malwarebytes to find the curse and I can’t use it.

Hello @Simon121 and :welcome:

Please restart the computer and then run the following for me and I'll review your logs in the morning sometime.

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system.
You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press the Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it also makes another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply as well.

Thank you

Is this a Work computer or was it owned or joined to a network domain before?

Did you try to uninstall 360 Antivirus? I don't see the installer listed but I do see it still has elements of the software running.

AS: 360 Total Security (Enabled - Up to date) {B8102BA0-19BA-AE5D-847E-AA745B32C7ED}

Code Integrity determined that a process (\Device\HarddiskVolume3\Windows\System32\MicrosoftEdgeCP.exe) attempted to load \Device\HarddiskVolume3\Program Files (x86)\360\Total Security\I18N64.dll that did not meet the Store signing level requirements.

You have Bitdefender Agent also listed but not the main product.
Bitdefender Agent is an official program by Bitdefender that gets installed alongside other company products such as Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition or Total Security usually.

You have an OLD and compromised version of Java installed. Please go to Control Panel, Programs, Add/Remove and uninstall Java and Bitdefender Agent

You may want to review or consider not using CCleaner

https://www.howtogeek.com/172820/beginner-geek-what-does-ccleaner-do-and-should-you-use-it/

You have a very old version of Malwarebytes installed as well. Malwarebytes version 3.3.1.2183 - for now don't uninstall it just yet. We'll get you on the newer version once we clean up some stuff first.

For now please temporarily uninstall RogueKiller as well

Please uninstall McAfee Security Scan Plus

Did you install or pay for McAfee VPN Service ??

ATTENTION: System Restore is disabled (Total:462.66 GB) (Free:94.89 GB) (21%)
Please enable System Restore and create a new System Restore Point
https://www.thewindowsclub.com/system-restore-disabled-turn-on-system-restore-windows

Please download the attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop.
NOTE. It's important that both files, FRST or FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on this particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system.

Run FRST or FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait.
If the tool needs a restart please make sure you let the system restart normally and let the tool complete its run after restart.
The tool will make a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please attach or post it to your next reply.

Note: If the tool warned you about an outdated version please download and run the updated version.

Thanks

Is this a Work computer or was it owned or joined to a network domain before?

Not that i am aware of, however i did purchase 2nd hand about 1.5 years ago but was informed of fresh windows install ?

Did you try to uninstall 360 Antivirus? I don't see the installer listed but I do see it still has elements of the software running.

I did uninstall recently as i though maybe this was a part of the slowing down/ random turning on off in the night.

I recently tried to download the trial before buying as i hoped it could help, however i could not get it to install as it seemed to be getting blocked, no connection to download.

There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete.  Restart

Windows and run sfc again.

Please restart your computer. Then  run the fix again or open an elevated admin command prompt and run the following and post back the results

SFC  /SCANNOW

Great, the log looks good. If Malwarebytes is working well and no specific issues we should be done here now. If there are any issues then we do have a new beta that was recently released. You can enable Beta downloads from the Settings and then check for updates and reboot the computer after the update. Again, only if needed or you want to try the beta.

I'll go ahead and leave you the following information to help you better protect your privacy and data.

If you're not backing up your data and you're still using Google Chrome then you're just not serious about Privacy, Safety, and protecting your data. Malwarebytes is a fantastic program but you still need to back up your data and you still need to block scripts and Ads in your browser.
If you're still using Google Chrome I would highly suggest you consider using Firefox instead. For more advanced users you might consider installing NoScript as well (it does have a higher learning curve though)
