Good afternoon @Taffy1812, the message you're inquiring about is part of an engagement campaign that we occasionally send out to customers using the product in free mode - it cannot be disabled. Based on your description, it sounds like this one might not be behaving properly. Please let us know how often are you seeing this pop-up so we can investigate further. Thanks!

Hi @Taffy1812,

The log file mentioned in post #2 will help us track down this issue (in addition to the issue you're seeing with the improper appearance of the notification). Please consider running the Malwarebytes Support Tool and providing the generated file so that we can improve/address any issues with this experience.

hello. The pop-up appears every time I power-up my laptop - that's why I was in a bad mood earlier! Sorry

Hi @Taffy1812,

Thank you for the file.

What we're dealing with is two potential issues here:

  1. The frequency of the notification.
  2. The appearance of notification.

For #1, please answer the following:

  • How many times in total have you seen this notification?
  • How soon after you power on the machine do you see the notification?
  • Is it consistently displayed whenever the machine is powered on? How often do you shut down and power on the machine?

For #2, we'll need to collect additional information to help us determine the cause.

@LiquidTension    Many thanks for removing my original snip. Back to your questions:

How many times in total have you seen this notification? It probably started appearing around the 26th February

How soon after you power on the machine do you see the notification? Immediately

Is it consistently displayed whenever the machine is powered on? Yes but I usually close it with the X

How often do you shut down and power on the machine? Probably 3 or 4 times a day.

I'll now run that link in your #2 and I'll get back asap. Thanks

@LiquidTension  I've run that query.bat. I haven't saved it and again would prefer  not to take a screen print for the reason I gave earlier. Is this snip enough for you, please? PS The snip I saved was of the full screen below my top bars but the image that appears below appears to have been trimmed at both sides - can you see the full snip?

Hi @Taffy1812,

Thanks for the information.

The screenshot we're looking for is of https://www.malwarebytes.com/lp/iris/169/. What we need to know is how the notification displays directly in Internet Explorer. You don't need to provide a screenshot of your entire browser window - just of what's displayed in the webpage.

The batch file uploaded to https://malwarebytes.box.com/s/95yz192s3ebf91yjn8u93s5wn3nb7b2w needs to be run. This will save a file to the desktop named mb-query.txt, which can be attached to a forum post.

Hi @Taffy1812,

Thanks again. That mbst-grab-results.zip file is from the Malwarebytes Support Tool from earlier.

If you download the batch file from https://malwarebytes.box.com/s/95yz192s3ebf91yjn8u93s5wn3nb7b2w and double-click it, you should find a file named mb-query.txt is written to your desktop. If you still encounter an issue, let me know and we can arrange something alternative (perhaps a remote session with a member of the Support team).

here's the contents in free form rich text in case it helps you get what you need:

@echo off

(
    reg query "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION" /s

WMIC DATAFILE WHERE name="C:\\windows\\system32\\mshtml.dll" get Version /format:Textvaluelist
) >> "%userprofile%\desktop\mb-query.txt" 2>&1

in free form plain text =

@echo off

(
    reg query "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION" /s

WMIC DATAFILE WHERE name="C:\\windows\\system32\\mshtml.dll" get Version /format:Textvaluelist
) >> "%userprofile%\desktop\mb-query.txt" 2>&1

Hi @Taffy1812,

Thanks for your patience.

The batch file needs to be downloaded to your computer after accessing the link in your browser. Click the "Download" button in the top right corner to download it.

Once downloaded, open your Downloads folder and double-click the downloaded file named query.bat.
If you're prompted by SmartScreen, click More info followed by Run anyway.

Once the batch file has been run, a file named mb-query.txt will be saved to your Desktop. This is the file to attach to a post.

It just got worse. I clicked on the link to follow the steps that you outlined and couldn't get any further - Windows Defender is retaliating, per the snip below. What shout I do now?

PS Every time I power up I see another irritating pop-up from you. See below. It's beginning to turn me off MBAM. Can you block it?

From your first screenshot click show more and you should get the option to allow it.

As for the second screenshot, That is just telling you there is a new version of Malwarebytes to install.
