Windows 10 and Malwarebytes not starting

Recommended Posts

I have just upgraded my computer in fact it is a complete rebuild with a new motherboards and processor. the first couple of days I noticed MWB was opening ok, now it does not open nor can I access it from programs. Obviously something is amiss.  It shows up in task manager as working but on very low system resources.

I suggest turning off fast startup in Windows. Then restart.

I would also recommend creating exclusions between Malwarebytes and ESET to help prevent any possible conflicts or performance issues.  Please add the items listed in this support article to ESET's allow list(s)/trust list(s)/exclusion list(s) particularly for any of its real-time protection components and likewise add ESET's program folder(s) (likely located under C:\Program Files and/or C:\Program Files (x86)) to Malwarebytes' Allow List using the method described under the Allow a file or folder section of this support article and do the same for its primary data folder which is likely located under C:\ProgramData (you may need to show hidden files and folders to see it).

A system restart is definitely in order.  There appear to be a ton of pending file rename operations waiting to replace many files with new versions on reboot.

Additionally I noticed you are running ESET.  I believe that some users have experienced issues recently with the latest versions of ESET with Malwarebytes however you should be able to fix it if this is the case, likely by creating exclusions.  Please add the items listed in this support article to ESET's trusted/exclusions list(s) for its real-time protection components and then restart your system and see if Malwarebytes now runs properly.

If the issue still persists then please try the following:

  1. Run the Malwarebytes Support Tool
  2. Accept the EULA and click Start Repair
  3. Follow the onscreen instructions and restart the system if prompted to do so

Once that is done check to see if Malwarebytes is now working properly.

Please let us know how it goes.

Thanks

I have an M2 ssd 3500 so it is damn slippery.  It was shutting down as all lights went out and no lights inside desktop. Definitely not going hybrid as it would have started again if I operated the mouse or keyboard. My processor is an I9 9900K so it is pretty well top end of the Intel range

Not true. That is what fast start in Windows 10 is all about. Shut down and restart are by default completely different. With fast start on, Windows does not do a full shutdown when you choose shutdown from the start menu.

With fast start off you are now fully shutting down when you choose shutdown from the start menu. Now it fully closes any running process now and it did not before. That is the longer shutdown.
