trojan.agent is quarantined but not being removed

Recommended Posts

Malwarebytes keeps telling me that it has quarantined a trojan.agent, but it keeps showing up every time I reboot the computer.

I have read other blogs with the same problem, so I have done what you told others to do and downloaded the Farbar Recovery scan tool and attached the 2 files here.

Thank you for any help

  • If you don't have Malwarebytes installed yet please download it from here and install it.
  • Once installed then open Malwarebytes and select Scan and let it run.
  • Once the scan is completed click on the View Report button, then the Export button and save the file as a Text file to your desktop or other location you can find and attach that log on your next reply.
  • If Malwarebytes won't run then please skip to the next step and let me know in your next reply.

STEP 02

Please download AdwCleaner by Malwarebytes and save the file to your Desktop.

  • Right-click on the program and select RunAsAdmin.jpg Run as Administrator to start the tool.

  • Press the Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.

  • Please attach the Additions.txt log to your reply as well.

Thanks

Malwarebytes would not open after I downloaded the update, and caused computer to freeze up. I forced a shut down and went straight to adwcleaner and got the notice of 4 Dell preinstalled software issues which it wants to quarantine.

Here are the files. Now when computer restarted Windows defender shows trojan:win32/casdet!rfn which I quarantined. Malwarebytes did not do a scan

Okay, please go into Control Panel, Programs, Add / Remove and if Malwarebytes is there please go ahead and uninstall it. Make sure  you have y our license if this is the paid product.

Then restart the computer and download and reinstall the program again using the following download installer

https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/mb4_offline

Let me know if there are any issues reinstalling or not. Then see if you can run a Threat scan now

I turned the computer off after an hour and gave up for the day. I tried again this morning and it tells me Malwarebytes uninstall failed.

On the program files menu it shows Malwarebytes 4.04.49 does not have a file size.

I ran the Windows Defender offline scan again this morning, I don't know how to print the report, so here is a screen shot

I am at work today and won't be able to to anything else till this evening

thanks

To view a Windows Defender Antivirus event
  1. Open Event Viewer.
  2. In the console tree, expand Applications and Services Logs, then Microsoft, then Windows, then Windows Defender Antivirus.
  3. Double-click on Operational.
  4. In the details pane, view the list of individual events to find your event.

Let me get a new, fresh set of FRST logs. That may help us see something more of what's going on. We can also use it to manually remove Malwarebytes if needed.

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system.
You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press the Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it also makes another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply as well.

Thank you

Yes, that log is fine for now.

Please run the following which will check your Operating System files as well as remove the Trojan file listed and also your temp files and run a hard drive check.

Please download the attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop.
NOTE. It's important that both files, FRST or FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on this particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system.

Run FRST or FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait.
If the tool needs a restart please make sure you let the system restart normally and let the tool complete its run after restart.
The tool will make a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please attach or post it to your next reply.

Note: If the tool warned you about an outdated version please download and run the updated version.

fixlist.txt

Thanks

You should be able to reinstall over the top of Malwarebytes. Download this file and save it. Then close all open programs and browsers and run it to install Malwarebytes

https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/mb4_offline

Once the installation has completed go ahead and restart the computer and let me know if there are any issues now or not

Malwarebytes successfully reinstalled, and i ran a quick scan - everything looks good. I have a license for Premium which I will activate later as i don't have it with me now. I turned on Windows Defender Tamper Protection as it seemed like the correct thing to do. Please tell me if this is wrong.

Thank you so much for all your help (and patience)

Kirsty

Great, glad to hear. I will go ahead then and close your topic @Islandgirl62 and wish you the best. I'll also leave you the following information below to help you better protect your privacy and your data.

If you're not backing up your data and you're still using Google Chrome then you're just not serious about Privacy, Safety, and protecting your data. Malwarebytes is a fantastic program but you still need to back up your data and you still need to block scripts and Ads in your browser.
If you're still using Google Chrome I would highly suggest you consider using Firefox instead. For more advanced users you might consider installing NoScript as well (it does have a higher learning curve though)
