I turned the computer off so that I could get cleaned up and dressed. that took about 30 minutes. when I turned the computer back on, I wanted to run a scan with Malwarebytes. I bring it up and find that Malwarebytes in already scanning the computer. It has gotten through to scanning files and has been scanning for 50 minutes. The question is: was the scan running while the computer was turned off?  Is that possible?

Greetings,

No, it wasn't scanning while the computer was off, however by default the scheduled scan is configured to run at the next available opportunity when its normal scan time is missed, and this will often result in a scan starting as soon as the system starts up from being powered off or asleep if the scheduled scan time was during the time that the PC was off/asleep.

I hope that helps to clarify things a bit.

If you have any further questions or issues please don't hesitate to let us know.

Thanks

In addition, I always have scans run during the time my computer is for sure to be on. Not at the default 2am and I do not set the run at the next available opportunity when its normal scan time is missed setting.

<informally  speaking>   I have never cared for the default 2AM  setting for scheduled scan in Premium.   Mine is set for late in the day  9:01 PM

I actually set a daily Quick scan and a weekly threat scan. On some clients I have the qiuck to run at the next available opportunity when its normal scan time is missed since a quick scan is so fast.

Just my .02

If the scan didn't run while the computer was off then why would it show that it had been scanning for 50 minutes after it was started back up.

May have gone to sleep and then woke up. Also Windows 8 and 10 "off" is not really off when you use shutdown with the default fast start of Windows is enabled.
