Computer is throwing BSOD a lot and getting worse. mwac.sys is the code mentioned every time. Google search constantly mentions Malwarebytes as being the problem. I am running version 4.0.4.49. Update package version is 1.0.17946. Component package version is 1.0.793. Running Windows 10, just updated to 1903. Please help before my computer gets totally screwed up and I lose valuable data. Thanks!

Greetings,

I'm sorry that the software is having issues.  This is a known issue but has been addressed by the recently released beta.  To fix it, please open Malwarebytes and go to settings by clicking the gear icon in the upper right of the main Malwarebytes window and under the General tab scroll down to the option for Beta updates and toggle it to on, then scroll back up to the top and click the Check for updates button and allow Malwarebytes to download and install the new build.  Once it finishes, go ahead and restart your system and the BSOD's should be resolved.

Please let us know how it goes.

Thanks

Please enable Beta updates in Malwarebytes and check for updates. See if that corrects your issues.

If it does get new logs and then disable Web Protection till a better fix is released.

Hello @jeffwolf

In case you see the BSOD again after upgrading to the latest Beta please get the following logs:

1. mbst-grab-results.zip by following the instructions here: https://support.malwarebytes.com/docs/DOC-2396

2. You will have a Memory.dmp file after a BSOD at c:\windows\memory.dmp

Please attach that file too using a service like www.wetransfer.com

Thank you.

Didn't want to start a new thread, but I had a BSOD after upgrading to the latest Beta and doing a restart. Oddly, there wasn't a dump file creating this time unlike before I did the upgrade and experienced crashes similar to this. In any event, I've attached the mbst-grab-results.zip.

Running CCleaner could have deleted it.

I agree it would have if I had ran CCleaner after the BSOD. However, I didn't run anything after the restart other than getting the logs and checking for memory dumps.

Thanks @nikhils. Just to let you know, I've been running the new Beta version (1.0.804) for a few days and haven't experienced any BSOD related to mwac.sys or any other drivers. I did initially have some internet problems after the update, mainly slow loading of web pages & speeds running at only 50%, but that seems to have resolved itself after a computer restart.

Any news on if/when this fix will be pushed to the main updates? In other words, if I do an update on my server this evening, do I'll still need beta updates enabled do get the mwac.sys BSOD issue fixed?

We don't have a specific date to announce. As soon as it's made publicly available, there will be an announcement in this forum section. Until then, you will need to continue enabling beta updates.

Been using the Beta version for 30 hours now and have had no problems. Scan is fast and MBAM seems stable. Thanks

Just a note, Malwarebytes premium is not officially supported on servers. It usually works fine but some times there are other issues.

Good to know... I've been successfully running it on a Server 2008 for some years, then Malwarebytes for Teams when it was released, on a new server as of January 21st (Server 2019 Essentials)... fortunately we haven't run into any issues other than the BSOD in this topic, but I'll keep that in mind... It's a simple config though: File sharing and Quickbooks Enterprise, nothing else on it.
