Note, I did not say the system is clean.   I tried to convey that I do not think there is a "malware infection".

Thanks for the mbst report.

Can you please try this:

1. Go to https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcleaner/

2. Download and launch the tool

3. Go to settings and tun on the following option under Basic Repair Actions: "Reset hosts file"

image.png.c88d00c34adaf6aa6062acfc9817882b.png

4. Click on Scan now and click on Run basic repair.

5. Reboot machine.

Thanks for the Adwcleaner report.   about the

Quote

I still got the notification of Firewall being down after reboot

Does that show by itself ?  or else, are you doing some sort of lookup?

and can you do a screen grab of this message box?

I take it that the Windows system is working ok for you.   That you are able to use your web browsers and other apps.

Now.....this is just normal advice  and good practice.   It does not of itself cure the "firewall" message you have been describing.

See this article on our Malwarebytes Blog
https://blog.malwarebytes.com/security-world/technology/2019/01/browser-push-notifications-feature-asking-abused/

You want to disable the ability of each web browser on this machine from being able to allow "push ads". That means Chrome, Firefox, or Edge browser (on Windows 10), or on Opera.

Scroll down to the tips section "How do I disable them".

If this pc has the Google Chrome browser, or the Brave browser, I suggest you install the Malwarebytes Browser guard for Chrome.

To get & install the Malwarebytes Browser Guard extension for Chrome,

Open this link in your Chrome   browser:

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/malwarebytes/ihcjicgdanjaechkgeegckofjjedodee

Then proceed with the setup.

If the pc has Mozilla Firefox, to get & install the Malwarebytes Browser Guard  Firefox extension.

Open this link in your Firefox browser

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/malwarebytes/

Then proceed with the setup.

That link is for English US.   There are other language version.  Just go to the very bottom right of the page and look at “Change language” list drop down.

it shows itself after a few minute when entering my session
here is the screen grab Capture.JPG.f0c1f5232983e0d0fc2306a1d4b2ad57.JPG

(note that when I try to disable the Firewall, it enables itself back immediately)

for now everything is back to normal except the Firewall Error. I can access the internet normally.

I will follow your advice regarding notification center and install the MB extension, though the notification looks like its coming from Defender and I just checked I refused every notifications on both Chrome and Firefox.

I just ran a ping google.com and bing.com - same error, 100% packet loss with MB on, no loss with MB Web Protection off... how strange

Thanks for the screen grab  and for other info.

As a sidenote, I encourage you to apply the last bits of advice to each of your web browsers.  That is regardless of the current issue.

It is a great idea to strengthen protections on each browser !

.

Now then, I am still mystified why this message keeps on showing up.   As well as not being sure the source....though I suspect it is the Windows O.S.

Now then, go slow / careful / judicious....Read this article at WinHelponline forum  about resetting the firewall rules  and resetting the firewall thru a elevated command prompt.

Start at the top of article

https://www.winhelponline.com/blog/reset-firewall-defaults-restore-rules-advanced-security/

You are able to use the system and do what is needed.   We need to step back  and not rush about.   just saying honestly.

I tried to install MalwareBytes Windows Firewall Control. After trying to set the recommended the Medium Filtering, it kept resetting to Low Filtering. I thought there was something fishy there, so I tried to go into Firewall and Network Protection and Advanced Settings ; I had this error returned to me image.png.02c12460d0647bff28c2609b36b6a512.png

I must admit I'm feeling more and more scared, I can't even access my own firewall settings..

Please do not be scared.  Please understand that this is just some glitch or so on the Windows system.  There is no call for even mentioning scares.

Also, let us not be overly fixated.    Whatever "it" is is eventually fixable.   Dont allow this to be a "focus" of "worry".   I mean, take some deep breaths, take a break, take some walks.

Please know that I am not on 24 x 7.   Also that I and likely you are in need of a break for fresh air  and consideration.

Let us do a first basic recheck at this point.  Lets kindly go easy and slow.

Close any opened web browser pages that you do not need.

This procedure will use the Windows System File Checker tool  ( SFC ).

Open an elevated command prompt window i.e. run Command Prompt as an administrator .

It is best to use the Windows Copy ( CTRL+ C )  and paste  ( CTRL+V )  for the whole line, as-is

To Get the elevated command prompt, press Windows-key + X key  and then selected Command prompt ( Admin )

On that command prompt,  Copy & Paste this command

sfc /scannow

and tap Enter-key   and allow it to run.

that's very thoughtful of you, thanks for the kind words and again, for your patience.

btw, I hope I'm not asking too much, don't worry for me I can still work and that's my main preoccupation, so take your time to answer, you are not at my disposal for sure 😉

I'll go through this soon, will keep you updated !

Let me know the result of the SFC scan later  .... as you get the time ... no rush.

For the time being & until such time as I ask otherwise, Allow me to ask you to keep the Malwarebytes web protection Off.

Start Malwarebytes.

Look on the pane on the far right.  Look for  Web protection.   Be sure it is shown on the far left   ( indicating OFF).

Then, click the Settings ( gear) icon

Then click on the tab "Notifications"

Be sure the second line is set to off  ( far left)   for "Alert me if any real time modules are turned off"

Assurez-vous que la deuxième ligne est désactivée (à l'extrême gauche) pour "M'avertir si des modules en temps réel sont désactivés"

Close Malwarebytes after those adjustments.

You have indicated to me that your internet access is doing normal  when the web protection is off.   Let us keep it off for the duration.

I am looking forward to the result from the System File Checker.   After I hear from you, I plan to go thru some new checks with you, starting with this one here.

I just want to be sure you login into Windows with the gabri account which has administartor-level access rights in Windows.

To Get the elevated command prompt, press Windows-key + X key  and then selected Command prompt ( Admin )

On that command prompt,  Copy & Paste this command

whoami

and then tap the Enter-key.   Just let me know what the screen showed.

Thank you for your continued patience.

Hello.

Happy to learn that the SFC result is good.

Also that the whoami display indicates you are logged on with administrator rights.

Let us take a few minutes just to check ( re-check) the system for malware.

[   1   ]

Do a new scan with Malwarebytes for Windows.

Start Malwarebytes from the Windows  Start menu.

Click Settings ( gear icon)   at the top right of Malwarebytes window.   We want to see the SETTINGS window.

Then click the SECURITY  tab.
Scroll down and lets be sure the line in SCAN OPTIONs for "Scan for rootkits" is ON
Click it to get it ON  if it does not show a blue-color

Now click the small X  to get back to the main menu window.

Click the SCAN button.
Select a Threat Scan ( which should be the default).

If any threat is detected,  I would like a copy of that scan report.

[  2   ]

The Microsoft Safety Scanner  is a free Microsoft stand-alone virus scanner that  can be used to scan for & remove malware or potentially unwanted software from a system.

The download links & the how-to-run-the tool are at this link at Microsoft

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security/threat-protection/intelligence/safety-scanner-download

Let me know the result of this.

The log is named MSERT.log

the log will be at  %SYSTEMROOT%\debug\msert.log   which in most cases is

C:\Windows\debug\msert.log

Please attach that log with your reply.

Cordialement.

so, I ran both tests and here are the results :

Malware Bytes found two malicious actor s in my computer :

File: 1
PUP.Optional.ScramblePacker, C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\IMAGE-LINE\FL STUDIO 20\UNINSTALL.EXE, No Action By User, 12814, 77178, 1.0.17854, , ame,

Registry Key: 1
PUP.Optional.ScramblePacker, HKLM\SOFTWARE\WOW6432NODE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVERSION\UNINSTALL\FL Studio 20, No Action By User, 12814, 77178, , , ,

the fact is I already found them, and asked the devs about that issue (Image-Line) after few talks, they told me it was a false positive. (note that I own the Software, it is bought and signed at my name, so no risk a malicious action hidden in this files)

for the Microsoft Safety Scanner, nothing was detected :

Thank you.   We may consider that this pc does not have a malware infection.

What follows is a  new  custom tweak for this system for the Windows Defender.   Please close all un-needed open programs you may have opened yourself manually.

Do that before doing this procedure.   Please also delete the prior file FIXLIST.txt   that I had you save before.

This custom script is for  Goldanorack   only.

Close and save any open work files before starting this procedure.

Please Close and save any open work files before you start this next step.  It will involve a Windows Restart at the end of it.

I am sending a   custom Fix script which is going to be used by the FRST64 tool. They will both work together as a pair.

Please RIGHT-click the (attached file named) FIXLIST and select SAVE  link AS and save it directly ( as is) to the  DOWNLOADS  folder

The tool named FRST64.exe   tool    is already on the Downloads folder

Start the Windows Explorer and then, to the Desktop.

Double click FRST64

to run the tool. If the tool warns you the version is outdated, please download and run the updated version.

IF Windows prompts you about running this, select YES to allow it to proceed.

IF you get a block message from Windows about this tool......

click line More info information on that screen

and click button Run anyway on next screen.

on the FRST window:
Click the Fix button just once, and wait.

FRST_Fixl.png.c4c1c0dddcc49b11fa400590f070bd5e.png

PLEASE have lots and lots of patience when this starts. You will see a green progress bar start. Lots of patience. This run here should be fairly quick.
If you receive a message that a reboot is required, please make sure you allow it to restart normally.
The tool will complete its run after restart.
When finished, the tool will make a log ( Fixlog.txt) in the same location from where it was run.

Please attach the FIXLOG.txt with your next reply later, at your next opportunity

and when you post back, tell me how Windows is doing over-all.

Thank you for the report.  Generally speaking, the information from the run is good.

The SC is the windows Service Control  manager  ( command applet) .   It can be a challenge to use in a batch script.

.

To make a short summary:  This pc is able to communicate on the internet,  You should be able to use Windows Defender.

I had you run 2 different scans & conclude that there is no malware infection.

,

I would like to run one new script , and also get 2 new fresh reports.  All of these will not take a lot of time.

On this next run, please have lots of patience after you start the run.   It will take several minutes for it to do the run.  It may well take 10 or more minuted  for all of it.

This is to just run a new report with the Malwarebytes Support tool.

open your Downloads folder
Double-click mb-support-1.5.3.749.exe  to run the report
You may be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent.

Place a checkmark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next
You will be presented with a page stating, "Get Started!"

Do NOT use the button “Start repair” !
Click the Advanced tab on the left column

    Click the Gather Logs button

A progress bar will appear and the program will proceed with getting logs from your computer

Upon completion, click a file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your Desktop. Click OK
Please attach the ZIP file in your next reply.

[    3   ]

This too is just a report.

RSIT (Random's System Information Tool)
Please download RSITx64 by random/random... save it to your desktop.

  1. Right click on RSIT.exe and select "Run As Administrator" to run it. If Windows UAC prompts you, please allow it.
  2. Please read the disclaimer... click on Continue.
  3. RSIT will start running. When done... 2 logs files...will be produced.
The first one, "log.txt", <<will be maximized... the second one, "info.txt", <<will be minimized.
  4. Please post both... "log.txt" and "info.txt", file contents in your next reply.

.

Thank you very much.

Cordialement.
