Malwarebytes 4.x and jpg in Explorer

Recommended Posts

Hello friends of Malwarebytes

Following procedure:
- photo-files saved on the desktop, new folder
- view in Explorer, with large icons
- photos should be renamed
- click once on the filename

Result:
I must wait 15 seconds for each photo to rename it/before a renaming is possible.

Question:
Why is the rename-procedure (photo file-renaming in Windows-file-explorer) blocked?

Windows 10 pro - 1909
Nvidia-Driver for 1080 GTti
AMD Ryzen - current chipset drivers

No other security software active.
No cleaners (except Windows own)
No other problems (except GUI errors with 4K)

BTW: The "Advanced Exploit Protection"-section is not translated

Best regards

Uwe

Greetings,

Thank you for reporting these issues.  It sounds like the issue with slow renaming of files is probably being caused by the Ransomware Protection component in Malwarebytes.  Please test by temporarily disabling it to see if that eliminates the delays with renaming images.  You can disable it by right-clicking on the Malwarebytes tray icon and clicking where it says Ransomware Protection: On then clicking Yes when prompted by User Account Control.  Once that is done, test to see if you can rename the files without any delays and let us know how it goes.

Thank you also for pointing out the issues with the translation.  That is the Deutsch translation, correct?  I want to make sure that I report the correct language to the Product team for review to get those UI bugs fixed that you discovered.

Thanks

Hi @UweKraatz,

Thanks for the report. We've tried reproducing this issue but have not encountered any issues. Please could you provide some additional information:

  • Is this a consistent occurrence for you when Ransomware Protection is enabled? Have you rebooted and checked if the issue still occurs?
  • Is this the structure for the files you're attempting to rename? %UserProfile%\Desktop\{parent folder}\{files}
  • What file formats are affected? Does this occur with non-image files?
  • Do you see the same issue when attempting to rename files in other locations?
  • How long have the files you're attempting to rename been present on the computer? E.g. Are you transferring the files from an external device and then immediately attempting to rename them?

In addition, please carry out the "technical issue" instructions in post #2 and attach the generated file.

Hello LiquidTension

I've tried self to verify the problem. But today, on equal terms, there was no delay whatsoever.

Was it an problem with a virus-sig? Perhaps.

  • I save photos from Microsoft Outlook (als Grafik speichern) on the %UserProfile%\Desktop\{parent folder}\{files}
  • Start Rename
  • Renaming was delayed.

Now the problem cannot be verified.

Thanks for your understanding and reacting quickly.

Uwe

In the meantime, Windows Update was run.
