How to automatically update the application ?

Recommended Posts

I am using MB Free. I got the latest application update on my laptop last month, i don't remember how, i think when i click scan and its updated to latest application version. But i don't get the application update on my PC. The last time I opened MB on my PC 50 days ago (based on last scan). I opened MB today to do a scan and the scan is complete, but I didn't get the latest application update, I am hoping i got latest application update when scan running and checking for updates. Apparently I didn't get an update and I'm still using the old MB version. I found out how to update manually from settings menu and finally i got latest application update. My question is,  How to automatically update the application? Do I not get updates automatically because I haven't opened the MB in a long time?

I also don't remember how I was able to get updates automatically on my laptop, but I'm sure I didn't do a manual update, and I don't use trial either.

Hello @Peyote

Just to add a bit.

It is important that we know which version of Malwarebytes for Windows is on your pc.   Whether it is version 3.8.3  or the latest version 4.0.4.49

That is important so that we can relay more detailed how-to's.

But, since you have the Free mode install, no, the program does not auto-update itself   ( unless you are doing a manual scan).   and certainly does not update if the program is not running.

And cannot auto-update  any new Version.   As I noted, the latest is  version 4.0.4.49 .

Please start your Malwarebytes.   Please check to see what Version it is.

IF yours is version 3.x ,  please see this Support article on how to start a "Application Update"

https://support.malwarebytes.com/docs/DOC-1125

Sincerely.

@Peyote Are you talking definition updates? Those are updated each time you scan.

If you are talking about application updates aka cumulative updates my question do you close the tray icon in between scans?

Not definition update but the application update.

Yes i do close tray every time I am done with scanning

Its 3.8.3 before, but after I i do manual update its 4.4.49.  Did I not get an update because I closed the tray icon?

And does this notification also appear on MB free version or just premium version ?

Yes.

Both.

It will in time, however new versions are metered out to users gradually over time, but if you wish to avoid the wait you may open Malwarebytes and navigate to Settings and click on the Install Application Updates button and the new version should be downloaded and offered to you to install or you may download and install it manually from here if you prefer.

I hope this helps, and if you have any trouble or there is anything else we might assist you with please let us know.

Thanks
