I believe that the heuristics have now been incorporated into the file scan, so they are still done but no longer show as a seperate scan item in the new UI.
(It was similar in later versions of MB3 where, although still shown seperately, they were actually done at the same time as the file scan).

Sorry I don't know about your .rar question.

Not all updates require a reboot, I got an update today today that didn't need one.

To see the version/definition/component information click on the Settings Cogwheel (top right of the UI) and then click on about.

Greetings,

You should find the Malwarebytes 4 user guide here to be most useful.  It gives the details about the new UI and features of the software.

If you check under settings by clicking on the gear icon in the upper right and select the Security tab you will find the following options under Scan options:

  • Scan for rootkits this is disabled by default, however I personally recommend enabling it though it will make scans take longer
  • Scan within archives yes, Malwarebytes still scans RAR files and other archive file formats
  • User artificial intelligence to detect threats (scans may take longer) this is the new heuristics engine which combines AI/Machine Learning, cloud capabilities and advanced heuristics detection techniques into a new/enhanced module for the detection engine; it is an enhanced version of the Shuriken engine from Malwarebytes 3

It's normal for most updates not to require a reboot.  Malwarebytes tries to avoid requiring a reboot if possible following updates, however if in-use files need to be replaced then it will prompt you to reboot.

thank both of you for the info, i have configured mbam to automatically update defs. every 15 min but I'm not shure if it is working because It's been 2 tries that I clicked on check for updates and I manually updated It. Also i have rootkits enabled on my scheduled scans and as default option but when i see the report of my scan, on advanced I only see 3 options, memory, startup and file system. Thanks for the info

try to scan a media file

Malwarebytes does not target script files during a scan.. That means MB will not target; JS, HTML, VBS, .CLASS, SWF, BAT, CMD, PDF, PHP, etc.

It also does not target documents such as; PDF, DOC, DOCx, XLS, XLSx, PPT, PPS, ODF, etc.

It also does not target media files;  MP3, WMV, JPG, GIF, etc.

Malwarebytes will detect files like these on execution only.
