[ RESOLVED ] How long will you continue to suppor 3.8.3?

Recommended Posts

Not willing at this time to upgrade to version 4. Will wait until the dust settles, as there appears to be multiple issues with what is in effect a major upgrade from a malwares program to a full anti-virus app. Please post nformation about how long 3.8.3 will continue to be supported. My solution, for now, is to only update that app with definitions, etc.

Thanks for listening.

Nick

Greetings,

Version 4 actually isn't too different from version 3 under the hood.  All of the primary protection components are essentially the same and aside from the new UI, the only major change is the addition/enhancement of the Shuriken machine learning/cloud heuristics engine (which already exists in v3 but has been greatly enhanced in v4).  As for how long version 3 will continue to be supported, please refer to the information in the Malwarebytes for Windows Product Lifecycle.

Malwarebytes 4, like version 3, is not an actual antivirus and continues to be positioned as an antivirus replacement, meaning that it is possible to use standalone without an AV if desired, however because it is engineered to be capable of functioning alongside other security applications (including a traditional AV) you may continue to run a traditional antivirus simultaneously if you desire to in order to have an additional layer of protection.

@nord: You should stick with version 2.2.1.1043 if you just want anti-malware and not anti-virus. Version 3 added general anti-virus features. I had major problems with version 2 but the very final version 2 release (2.2.1.1043) worked fine for me. Version 3 caused less problems but still wasn't acceptable for me until, if I remember right 3.5.1. Version 4 has caused me relatively few problems so far. Something is screwing up my laptop a the moment but so far it doesn't appear to be Malwarebytes 4.

This is not accurate.  Version 3 simply integrated the new Anti-Ransomware technology and updated the other components to improve their capabilities; it did not add any traditional AV capabilities (the Malware Protection component continues to be an on-execution detection engine, not an on-access detection engine as traditional AV's are).

Please refer to this post for further details.

Hi,

Is there a link for the 3.8.3 version so we can do a fresh installation?  I am getting a constant pop up from my current 3.8.3 telling me to upgrade to 4x.  I had hit download for 4.x when it hit the street however I didn't do the upgrade so the program is stuck in a state of upgrading and I am tired of hitting close every few minutes.

Thanks, Costa

Hi and sorry for bumping this old thread. However I need some help and advice as being an old user here.

Is that version 3.8.3 recommended for Windows 7 systems for free personal use?

I like legacy editions and been using MBAM since initial version. Do you recommend the latest legacy (v3.8.3) for older systems like Windows 7 x64, or Malwarebytes v4 can also be installed?

Thanks a lot!

No.  V4.6.6, the latest version, is for Windows 7 and above.

Hi,

But this link lets us download the version of 3.8.3.2965 still as it is considered legacy:

https://downloads.malwarebytes.com/file/mb3-windows-legacy

Is it because 3.8.3.2965 is compatible with way older OSes like Windows Vista and Windows XP?

However I read on some post:

Malwarebytes has a legacy 3.xx version but it’s the 3.5.1 version that last supported XP & Vista. v3.6.x & higher require Win7 or higher.

So the legacy link forces to download non-XP/Vista compatible version which is 3.8.3.2965 and not 3.5.1?

Really a confusion.

Legacy is for Windows XP and Vista and due to Certificate and TLS/SSL Protocol issues, the capability for v3 to continue to work on these Legacy platforms is in limbo.

I have two Win7/32 platforms both using v4.6.6

There are signature, heuristic and other MBAM constructs not capable in v3.x and those new constructs will be lost if used on Windows 7 and above platforms.
