Malwarebytes Update Popups Regardless Of Settings

Recommended Posts

I've been a long time user of Malwarebytes.

Now, every few minutes, I am getting an update notification through Windows 10 task bar,
and turning the setting off DOES NOT WORK.  It seems to be targeting me whenever I have another app open,
almost on purpose so that I have to stop what I am doing and click close.  This is NOT ACCEPTABLE.
I have applications running that I cannot have popups coming up.  What the heck have you guys done?

Greetings,

Once Malwarebytes has downloaded a new version that is awaiting installation it will unfortunately display the notification prompting you to install it quite frequently.  I believe this has been corrected in newer versions, however for older versions a workaround must be applied.  You have already changed the notification settings for updates which is the first step; the second step is to disable the option to have Malwarebytes check for new program version updates when checking for database updates.

The final step is to delete the installer file located under C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\MBAMService\instlrupdate and then restart your system and that should eliminate the notifications, however please let us know if it does not.

You may also refer to the information in this support article for additional details and instructions if the above steps do not eliminate the issue.

I actually think it's from the Application itself, not Windows notifications.

This is from Malwarebytes. You can accept the new version(recommended) Or you can use the instructions previously offered by Exile to stop and delete the offers.(not recommended)

Yes, it is from Malwarebytes and the instructions I provided above will eliminate it if you don't want to upgrade to the latest version (though obviously we recommend you do as the latest build offers the best protection and there are several great new features in the new release).

I have a similar complaint about this popup. Of course, I eventually want to upgrade to the new version, but I've learned from experience that it's often wise to wait a while.  I find it exceedingly annoying to have this popup constantly appearing.  Why not have it appear just once a day? More than that borders on harassment.  I have great respect for Malwarebytes; this is not behavior I would expect from a company I use and respect.

Hello @Phil16 and :welcome:

Thank you for your feedback. Please notice though that you've replied to a topic that is now over a year old. The product has changed a lot in a year as well.

I will go ahead and lock this topic as relevance today does not apply exactly to settings a year ago.

Please consider the age of posts when replying.

Thank you
