Hello, my name is John. I need some help. My computer running Windows XP has become infected with I don't even know what. I try running Malwarebytes, my virus scanner, etc... They either turn up nothing, or don't even open.

I've downloaded and installed Hijackthis (installs fine, opens once, crashes on first attempted scan), malwarebytes (same as hijackthis),

If I open up internet explorer or firefox, and I type in a security website, i get redirected to spam. I then click back, and type it in again and sometimes it goes through to the security website.

I still can't run malwarebytes, hijackthis, or my virus scan.

Either the black DOS box comes up for just a second, then disappears. Or I get "Windows cannot access the specified device path or file. You may not have appropriate permissions to access the item." The same error message I've been getting for every other security program I've tried to open .

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a laptop (which I am on now) where I can look online, while working on my infected desktop

Download and run Win32kDiag:

  1. Download Win32kDiag from any of the following locations and save it to your Desktop.

[*]Double-click Win32kDiag.exe to run Win32kDiag and let it finish.

[*]When it states "Finished! Press any key to exit...", press any key on your keyboard to close the program.

[*]Double-click on the Win32kDiag.txt file that is located on your Desktop and post the entire contents of that log as a reply to this topic, please do not attach the file.

Please let it run for at least an hour without bothering it regardless of what it says. Then post back the log.
