Cannot 'approve' a blocked website

Recommended Posts

Hello people,

Since the new update release of Messenger for Desktop, Malwarebytes has decided it's a PUP thingy and refuses to let it update.  I am unable to 'approve' it as it only appears in the 'Reports' section.  Can anybody please advise how to get Malwarebytes to accept it?

Many thanks,

Bea

Greetings,

The next time the block occurs, right-click on the Malwarebytes tray icon located in the notification area near your system clock and you should see an option there to exclude the most recently blocked site.  If that does not correct the issue then you may try excluding the application from the Web Protection component in Malwarebytes by following the instructions under the Exclude an Application that Connects to the Internet section of this support article and selecting the main executable for your messenger application and none of its connections to any sites will be blocked.

Please let us know if that does not resolve the issue and if there is anything else we might assist you with.

Thanks

If you can please post the actual protection log @BeaSotted we can check to verify and if no issues add it to our internal exclusions. Unfortunately products by name alone are not enough information to go on.

Thank you

Ron

Sorry, Ron ~ that's Double Dutch to me (I'm very un-technically-minded!). 🤔

Hi Jane.

Running the Malwarebytes support tool will get the details collected,  and if you would then just attach the ZIP file in a reply, we will then be able to see the details.

We need to get information from this machine in order to have the proper detail to help you forward.
NOTE: The tools and the information obtained is safe and not harmful to your privacy or your computer, please allow the programs to run if blocked by your system.

    Download Malwarebytes Support Tool

Once the file is downloaded, open your Downloads folder/location of the downloaded file
    Double-click mb-support- 1.5.1.681.exe to run the report
You may be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent.

Place a checkmark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next
You will be presented with a page stating, "Get Started!"

Do NOT use the button “Start repair” !
Click the Advanced tab on the left column

    Click the Gather Logs button

A progress bar will appear and the program will proceed with getting logs from your computer

Upon completion, click a file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your Desktop. Click OK
Please attach the ZIP file in your next reply.

Thank you, sincerely.

I'll attempt this zip file thingy next week: have a 10-year-old in the household this week (very tiring!)...🙄

Just to close this out ... I take my hat off to Malwarebytes, as it appears that a 'latest version upgrade' wasn't what it appeared to be.  Have now re-started Messenger from the Microsoft store, and all now OK.

Many thanks,

Jane
