Total files scanned reduced

Since 10-7-2019 the total number of files scanned has changed from 11774 to 7871 for no apparent reason...  I have not deleted any files nor made any changes to my MacBook other than I installed OS Catalina successfully on 10/9/2019, but that did not fix the scanning issue.. Anyone else notice a substantial decrease in the number of files scanned recently?
