Streaming and Ransomware protection

Recommended Posts

I've been using Malwarebytes with no issues for years but lately my streaming with OBS -> NDI -> Twitch has had stuttering (lag) issues due to Ransomware protection in Malwarebytes (3.8.3).

If I turn Ransomware off the stream workes just perfect.

I don't like turning protection parts off so it would be great if there is a way to stream without turning it off every time.

I'm sorry you're experiencing performance issues with Ransomware Protection but hopefully we can come up with a solution.  Please start by excluding the program folder(s) for OBS and any other programs that are performing a large volume of I/O operations during streaming as this is likely why you're seeing the problem since Ransomware Protection watches in real-time for any ransomware activity on disk and in memory so anything with a lot of reading/writing to disk is going to spike up Ransomware Protection's resource usage.  To do so, follow the instructions under the Exclude a File or Folder section of this support article, selecting the option to exclude the item from detection as ransomware.  Do this for OBS and any other apps which are likely to be creating/modifying a lot of data on disk during your streaming operations and hopefully that will resolve the issue.

Please let us know how it goes and if the issue is resolved or not.

Hi @Cryonicblue,

Thanks for reporting this and letting us know exclusions resolved the issue!

Could you provide us with some additional information for troubleshooting purposes please?

  • When did this first start occurring? Were any significant changes made to the computer around this time? Did it coincide with a new Malwarebytes update?
  • Without exclusions in place, is it consistently reproducible or does it only occur sporadically?
  • What version of Windows are you running? Do you have other security software installed?
  • Could you provide more detail on your setup? Steps you take that result in the issue would be helpful, along with any additional hardware involved.
  • Does the stuttering occur with any game/activity you stream? Or is it specific to something? Can you provide an example of something you stream that experiences the stutter?

The troubleshooting file generated by the Malwarebytes Support Tool would also be helpful: https://support.malwarebytes.com/docs/DOC-2396
