PUP.Optional.MailRu problem

Recommended Posts

Good day. I just can’t get rid of the problem "PUP.Optional.MailRu". This code is somehow involved in synchronizing my Google account.

Reinstalling the browser does not help. Reset to defaults too. Conditionally helps just reset Google account synchronization.

All these files are quarantined, but after rebooting appear again and so on ad infinitum.

Thanks for attention.

Done. I almost clicked on "Start repair" :D

I noticed that the program reacted to the following sites: dlxx.ext.terrhq.ru, where xx - number.
For example: dl18.ext.terrhq.ru, dl25.ext.terrhq.ru, dl26.ext.terrhq.ru etc.

At a local forum, users said that this is only related to the gaming capabilities of the game center - downloading and updating the game through a torrent system, a regional game server, and more.

Thanks for attention.

Thank you for the report.   I have some questions for you.

Did you yourself install GameCenter ?

as far as your Email service & the Chrome browser , do you have a Email account at hxxp://mail.ru/    ?

In the screen grab picture you sent, all the flagged items related to Chrome browser.  The mail.ru setting in Chrome is the source of the tagging for "PUP.Optional.MailRu"

Lets turn off the SYNC option on Chrome.    See this article on our Malwarebytes Blog
https://blog.malwarebytes.com/security-world/technology/2019/01/browser-push-notifications-feature-asking-abused/

You want to disable the ability of each web browser on this machine from being able to allow "push ads". That means Chrome, Firefox, or Edge browser (on Windows 10), or on Opera.

Scroll down to the tips section "How do I disable them".

[ 2 ]

also, if you use Chrome or Firefox browser, install the Malwarebytes beta browser extension.  There is one for Chrome & another for Firefox.

To get & install the Malwarebytes beta Chrome extension,

Open this link in your Chrome browser: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/malwarebytes/ihcjicgdanjaechkgeegckofjjedodee

Then proceed with the setup.

To get & install the Malwarebytes beta Firefox extension.

Open this link in your Firefox browser: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/malwarebytes/

Then proceed with the setup.

.

[ 3 ]

Use Chrome browser  to go to https://www.google.com/settings/chrome/sync and sign into your account.
Scroll down until you see the "reset sync" button and click on the button
At the prompt click on "Ok".

About Gamecenter, I presume you trust it, if you get a website block when that game is in use, you can choose to have the " terrhq.ru" block notice Ignored.

You can manually set that site to be set as a site exception.

There is a general help document on that.

https://support.malwarebytes.com/docs/DOC-1130

Then about the pup.optional.mail.ru   ( since you have a Email account there ) do what follows to set some "IGNORE always" settings.   Just be careful that you only do that for this specific PUP

Do a new Malwarebytes scan.  And be sure to review the List  like in your screen-image you posted at the top of this Topic.

UN_TICK the checkmark at the very top left  - the one on the grey bar at the top

This should un-tick all of the 8 lines   ( for pup.optional.mail.ru  )

Then look at the bottom right of the screen and click on the blue color button.

Then look carefully at the next prompt.   You want to click on the button option in the middle  that says "Ignore always"      Всегда игнорировать

That choice will set the 8 things to be ignored  so that they do not get re-tagged by the program.

The two things above should help you with the two issues.   Keep me advised.

Note:  You are running the Malwarebytes in Trial mode  ( trial of Premium) which is for just 2 weeks from the time of install.

After that the Premium protections will stop, unless you buy a Premium license.
