Malwarebytes detect pup.optional.defaultsearch from google chrome?

So today i scan my computer with MW Free and MW detected pup.optional.defaultsearch. I am not yet quarantine this threat because i am afraid this will make my chrome corrupted if i quarantine. So i think i should ask you guys here, what is this mean? And should i quarantine?

If you haven’t already done so, please run the Malwarebytes Support Tool and then attach the logs in your next reply:

  1. Download Malwarebytes Support Tool
  2. Once the file is downloaded, open your Downloads folder/location of the downloaded file

  5. You will be presented with a page stating, "Get Started!"
  6. Click the Advanced tab on the left column

  8. A progress bar will appear and the program will proceed with getting logs from your computer

  9. Upon completion, click a file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your Desktop. Click OK

Greetings,

No, quarantining the detections will not corrupt Chrome.  It is likely that some software you installed came with a bundled PUP  (Potentially Unwanted Program) that altered your settings in Chrome, so Malwarebytes will restore it back to defaults if you allow it to quarantine the detections.

Once that's done, if the detections return then it could be the result of the sync feature in Chrome.  You can correct this by following the instructions in this topic.

Hello, first i would like to ask if MB detecting malware,adware,phishing or etc from google chrome does MB will labeled them in threat type category as pup.optional.defaultsearch or not ?

Malwarebytes will label each as determined by the Malwarebytes Research team, so anything overtly malicious will most likely be tagged as actual malware.  Anything detected as PUP would be things like adware and the like which aren't necessarily harmful, but could be undesirable, annoying or unwanted.
