Greetings,

It definitely sounds like it got hung up trying to remove one of the items.  Yes, you should be able to go ahead and restart your system safely.  Once that is done, please try running a scan with ADWCleaner again to see if any of the previously detected items still remain, and if so, have it remove them, and this time if it takes more than a minute or so to remove the items before prompting you to restart your system to complete the removal process, either cancel (if you can), or simply restart your system again and post your ADWCleaner logs and we'll take a closer look at what's going on with the software.

Thanks

Hello everyone

I got the same issue.
I installed adwcleaner_7.4 and started it, essentially to remove "sm.de", that corrupts two of my browsers (firefox and chrome). My system was still online then.

It hung up removing "vlc updater".

I shut down the system and started again. I didn't connect to the internet.

I couldn't find any executable file to start adwcleaner again, but I found the installer, so I repeated the installation and started the program.

Now it seemed to work. The system rebooted. But sm.de is still the starting page of both browsers.

I found the logs, so I can send them to you, hoping you can help me with that problem.

Your's

Michael

I solved the issue with sm.de and vlc updater (which caused the sm.de hijacking) following several advices from the internet.
I additionaly run malwarebytes and shortcutcleaner and I removed manually the wrong URL from the target of my browser properties. Then I erased my complete histories.
Now my Browsers start with correct sites.

But I still cant find a .exe file for adwcleaner. 🔍???
