Greetings,

It looks like the upgrade install for the new version didn't complete.  Reinstalling it should correct the issue.  First, please try downloading and installing the latest build from here.  Once that's done, check to verify that Malwarebytes is now working properly.

If the problem still persists or it won't install for some reason please let us know and we'll proceed with further steps.

Please let me know how it goes.

Thanks

Hello @gtwitty

I've moved your topic into the Malware Removal forum so we can review it closer. Can you please get me the following logs

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system.
You can check here if you're not sure if your computer is 32-bit or 64-bit

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it also makes another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply as well.

Thanks

Ron

I re-downloaded FRST.exe after disabling MSE, I should be able to scan this individual file with MBAM, but when I right-click it, I see option to scan with MSE only.  I don't see an option from MBAM main screen to scan single file.  Please advise, and thank you for all your help to this point.

The scan for rootkit is not performed on a normal Threat Scan. If you want to do a rootkit scan you would need to choose a Custom Scan

Scan for rootkits utilizes a specific set of rules and tests to determine if a rootkit is present on your computer. For readers who are unfamiliar with this term, an explanation may be handy. A rootkit is malicious software that can be placed on a computer which has the ability to modify operating system files in a manner that hides its presence. Malware detection methods that rely on hooks to the operating system for detection and analysis would prove ineffective if the hooks had been purposely manipulated by malware. Our testing method is more intensive and more effective, but including rootkit scans as part of your overall scan strategy increases the time required to perform a scan.

Research In Motion\BlackBerry Desktop - Do you still use that?

WinRAR is old, if using would recommend updating
VLC is old
WinZip - ad and bloat, if you like it okay but 7-Zip is free open source and works quite well

I'm still reviewing the logs.

That's just how the scanner works. There is zero need to always scan for rootkits. That's why it must be run on a Custom Scan

Please download the attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop.
NOTE. It's important that both files, FRST or FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on this particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system.

Run FRST or FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait.
If the tool needs a restart please make sure you let the system restart normally and let the tool complete its run after restart.
The tool will make a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please attach or post it to your next reply.

Note: If the tool warned you about an outdated version please download and run the updated version.

fixlist.txt
