Updating 2nd computer

Recommended Posts

I got the notice to update to 3.6.3.2965 and did it, but the computer that my wife uses did not get the notice.  How do I update that unit?

@Hesed4

I would just like to suggest to take a few safe precautions before hand.  Mainly to close all current open program-windows & do a Windows Restart before beginning the Upgrade.  It will also help you to see all prompts of the upgrade.

What I would be sure to do is a Windows restart on the front end, and then one more at the finish. This whole process takes something less than 15 minutes.

1.  Close all your open programs.  Save any open work, if any.

2. Do one Windows Restart  ( so that there is no outstanding Windows operations awaiting).

3. Do the upgrade this way.  Start Malwarebytes.  Click Settings button.  Now on the Applications tab, click on the grey line "Install Application Updates".

Watch the prompts & the progress.   Then when you see a mini-prompt for the new version, click on YES and allow it to go forward.

Have patience.  Watch for all prompts to follow.  if it has a reboot to do, watch that too.

4.  When all is completed, do one Windows Restart.

5. Back in Malwarebytes, click Settings button, click on the tab "Account Details".

See that it shows Premium  and the status of the license.

Sincerely,

Maurice

Thank you, Maurice, for the simple and correct answer   The problem was that I had the second computer also set for Automatic Updates, but that does not seem to work on a second unit.  The box that said Install Update was grayed out (and not an option apparently with the Auto option selected) and was not something that caught my eye to begin with.

Hi.  That makes me wonder what Version of Malwarebytes for Windows was on that machine.   Or else, if that one was just in free mode.

The button does have an appearance that can make it seem to be grayed out.  I have requested that they modify its appearance to be more prominent both to make it stand out more as an active control/button and to be clearer that it is active/isn't grayed out.  As long as it looks like the button in the below image then it is actually active, it just doesn't stand out much against the background and doesn't resemble most other controls in the UI which are mostly white with a gray border or blue in color; that light gray they chose for this and a few other controls in the UI really makes it easy to overlook them or for the user to get the impression that they are disabled, at least in my opinion:

I'm pretty sure that I turned off "automatically download and install...….." and then the Install button changed to being live.

Those two switches above it shouldn't affect that setting as far as I know, but I suppose it's possible if something in the program's configuration files was corrupted and toggling the option that you did may have fixed it.

One more item of note is that even when all of the program update options are enabled, you won't necessarily receive the latest program versions as soon as they are available as they are metered out to users over time gradually/semi-randomly so you can go a long time through many database updates without the program picking up the latest program release, however clicking the Install Application Updates button overrides this delay and forces it to immediately check for and download any new program versions that are available, so you can always verify that you have the latest version by clicking on it.

Thanks.  I'll keep all this in mind (hopefully) the next time I get an update on the my computer.
