Win10 running too sluggish, possible malware

Recommended Posts

a relative has asked for help with a laptop that is running very sluggish. It is an Asus x201ep, which should be able to run Win10 decently.

The last Windows that i used was WinXP, so i'll be very thankful for any help.

I'm attaching the results from a MalwareBytes scan - it did not found anything, but i'm confident it has been run previously, so maybe this is the reason.

Also, the AdwCleaner logs, along with the results from the FRST scan.

Could someone guide me if there is something suspicious ?

Thank you very much :)

Hello, Welcome to Malwarebytes.
I'm nasdaq and will be helping you.

If you can please print this topic it will make it easier for you to follow the instructions and complete all of the necessary steps in the order listed.

No malware was found in your logs.

Please download the attached Fixlist.txt file to  the same folder where the Farbar tool is running from.
The location is listed in the 3rd line of the FRST.txt log you have submitted.

Run FRST and click Fix only once and wait.

The Computer will restart when the fix is completed.

It will create a log (Fixlog.txt) please post it to your reply.

Please post the Fixlog.txt and let me know what problem persists.

Hi Nasdaq,

thank you for your reply and confirmation that no malware seems to be present.

I ran the FRST Fix and i'm attaching the log.

Unfortunately, the computer is still sluggish.

I will follow the advice on the "Slow PC? - Start here" topic and if still no improvement, may have to reinstall the OS as a last resort.

Thank you for your help.

Sorry for this long delay.

My wife has a medical appointment at 8.30 am.

I did forget to check my topics on that day and I missed your reply until informed by a colleague.

Check the integrity of the operating system files.
How to run sfc /Scannow

When completed refer to the Microsoft article again and follow the instructions to view details of the System File Checker process

Post the contents of the sfcdetails.txt file for my review.

Let me know if the problem persists.

Let me know if the problem is with all browsers or just Opera.
