Hello @XL8T and :welcome:

First off, please follow the directions from the following topic and reset, clean up Google Chrome.

Once that has been completed please run the following steps for me and post back the requested logs as an attachment and we'll get you cleaned up.

NOTE: Please fully disable your antivirus while running these scans. Once done make sure you re-enable your antivirus

Please run the following steps and post back the logs as an attachment when ready.

STEP 01

  • If you don't have Malwarebytes 3 installed yet please download it from here and install it.
  • Once installed then open Malwarebytes and check for updates. Then click on the Scan tab and select Threat Scan and click on Start Scan button.
  • Once the scan is completed click on the Export Summary button and save the file as a Text file to your desktop or other location you can find, and attach that log on your next reply.
  • If Malwarebytes won't run then please skip to the next step and let me know on your next reply.

STEP 02

Please download AdwCleaner by Malwarebytes and save the file to your Desktop.

  • Right-click on the program and select RunAsAdmin.jpg Run as Administrator to start the tool.

RESTART THE COMPUTER Before running Step 3

STEP 03
Please download the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens, click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press the Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it also makes another log (Addition.txt). If you've, run the tool before you need to place a check mark here.
  • Please attach the Additions.txt log to your reply as well.

Thanks

Ron

Please go into Control Panel, Programs, Add/Remove and uninstall the following programs

Java 8
Java(TM) 6 Update 24

Next, please run the following fix

Please download the attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop.
NOTE. It's important that both files, FRST or FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on this particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system.

Run FRST or FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait.
If the tool needs a restart please make sure you let the system restart normally and let the tool complete its run after restart.
The tool will make a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please attach or post it to your next reply.

Note: If the tool warned you about an outdated version please download and run the updated version.

Some information and reading to help you be more informed about your computer and help you keep it clean going forward.

Let's get real. If you're not backing up your data and you're still using Google Chrome then you're just not serious about Privacy, Safety, and protecting your data. Malwarebytes is a fantastic program but you still need to back up your data and you still need to block scripts and Ads in your browser.
If you're still using Google Chrome I would highly suggest you consider using Firefox instead. For more advanced users you might consider installing NoScript as well (it does have a higher learning curve though)

Ron, thanks a lot for your help!! and for the reference material. Could you recommend anything specific to the problem you solved for me.

Before closing the ticket, could you please take a look at the attached. Thanks again!!

Also, as a heads-up, I will start a new thread for a similar problem with my other laptop. Being on same network, it happened at the same time.

It's not an installation. The files and folders that are hidden by default are simply set to be shown. Please review the following article and you can check to hide them again

Going to be away most of the day. Will check back tomorrow. Go ahead and post the 3 steps for the other computer here and I'll help you with it.

Good morning Ron.

Sorry for not responding sooner.

This computer has been acting up really bad and even Norton is for the most part disabled ( most of it's protection features are currently greyed out and I cannot find a solution to fix it; not sure if it's as result of the malware ( which N did not detect, bty)). Whatever hit it's pretty bad already. I'm concerned that there's no fixing for good. I'm currently looking into wiping clean the SSD drive via disket method. Would you recommend something different? Another Question: would you recommend that I do a check/cleanup of the MBR (Master Boot Record) and if yes, how should I proceed?

Thank you a lot for all your help!!
