Post-Malware /CPU running at 100% until task manager is opened

Recommended Posts

Hello,

About 2 weeks ago (May 23rd) I downloaded a link for some software from Utorrent and some malware was installed on my laptop.

I ran disc clean up on the system files while in safe boot and ran malwarebytes and it quarantined the infected files. I ran a scan again and it did not detect anything.

After that, I installed Kaspersky total security and ran a scan with nothing detected.

Ever since then, however, the laptop has been very slow to start up, and the fan is always running at its maximum speed and laptop overheats a lot.

CPU is at 100% unless I open task manager, then it goes down to very low, normal ranges around 5%...

I have read a lot of posts about this and it seems there might still be some malware or infected files on my laptop which the software cannot detect.

I don't know how to tell which processes are the ones causing this high CPU usage and I do not want to end any tasks so as not to mess up the system.

Can you please help me fix this issue?

Thank you

Hi, Mariafar.

I will be helping and guiding you, going forward.
IF this machine runs on Windows XP, please stop and tell me about that.

We need to get information from this machine in order to have the proper detail to help you forward.
NOTE: The tools and the information obtained is safe and not harmful to your privacy or your computer, please allow the programs to run if blocked by your system.

    Download Malwarebytes Support Tool

Once the file is downloaded, open your Downloads folder/location of the downloaded file
Double-click mb-support-1.4.0.615.exe to run the report
You may be prompted by User Account Control (UAC) to allow changes to be made to your computer. Click Yes to consent.

Place a checkmark next to Accept License Agreement and click Next
You will be presented with a page stating, "Get Started!"

Do NOT use the button “Start repair” !
Click the Advanced tab on the left column

    Click the Gather Logs button

A progress bar will appear and the program will proceed with getting logs from your computer

Upon completion, click a file named mbst-grab-results.zip will be saved to your Desktop. Click OK
Please attach the ZIP file in your next reply.

NOTES:

I can help you to check this Windows pc for malware.

I would like to know what ( if any ) third-party (non-Microsoft) antivirus was ever installed on this pc.

NOTE:

Other than Task Manager, what are you looking at to judge the "CPU busy" % ?

Can you perhaps try to get a screen-snapshot-grab image of what you are seeing  about CPU usage?

Thank you.
