Back to hogging CPU

Recommended Posts

Several months ago there was the big problem with an update to Malwarebytes grabbing lots of CPU time, and not being able to stop it. A fixed version was released, but it was hard to get control of the machine so as to install that. With Malwarebytes help I eventually got back to where I could use the system.

But suddenly this morning that is back again. There will be a copy of Malwarebytes running when I wake up the machine, doing a legitimate scan. But there will also be another copy, and that one is hogging the system so much that I can't even type email or edit a file: The echoed characters will show up maybe 30 seconds later, one by one, with typically some of them skipped. I cannot stop the process using task manager. (Windows 10 Pro, 64 bit)

(a) Are there others seeing this problem come back?
(b) Is there a suggested solution? (system not really usable this way!)

Your scan is set to 3 am and I assume your computer is sleeping at that time so the scan does not happen. So the scan "recovers" when it wakes up for your activities. Personally, I set all computers for a daily HYPER scan during a time the computer is awake (recover set at the default 23 hours) and a weekly THREAT scan also during a time when the computer is awake and do not set the recover scan option.

The active protection, in my opinion, is sufficient to protect the computer so the automated scans are less important.

The above is my opinion only. Works for me and 100's of my clients. Do not forget Windows Defender is also "on the job" as well.
