Rootkit option missing?

Recommended Posts

Hi! I've been using Malwarebytes for several years without any major issues.

However, I noticed today that I don't have a rootkit option when I go into Settings and the protection tab. I tried to google this and found nothing. I've seen in pictures that the Scan for Rootkits option should be there under Scan Options but it's not there for me. Please see the attached image. My MB is in swedish but I hope that won't be a problem.

Is this normal?

Edit: I can't upload image, the field where I paste the link just becomes red. What am I doing wrong?

Greetings,

I don't read Swedish so I'm not sure what the option translates to, however I can tell you that the option to enable rootkit scanning is the first one of the three listed under Scan Options and it shows as enabled in the picture you attached.  You should see that reflected in your scan logs from any scans you've run.

I changed my language setting to Swedish and highlighted the setting in the image below:

If the translation is not accurate please let us know and I will inform the Product team so that they may investigate a better translation, and if you have a better translation to suggest please post it.

Thanks

Hi. Thank you for your quick reply!

You are correct, when I googled "Spökprogram" I see that it means rootkit. It's just a strange translation because it means "ghost program" :P

But I can't find any other translation for it so I guess Spökprogram is the correct translation.

Thanks again!

I see, that makes sense.  There probably isn't a precise translation for 'rootkit' in Swedish so they came up with phrasing to try and describe it which, given the 'hidden' nature of rootkits, describing them as 'ghost programs' or 'phantoms' does make sense in a way.

Anyway, I'm glad I was able to help, and if there is anything else we might assist you with please let us know.

Thanks
