cryptocurrencytopnews random chrome page popup

Recommended Posts

Recently (as in the past day or two) my phone (Samsung S9+ Exynos UK) has been randomly opening up chrome and opening up a page from some website called crypotcurrencytopnews.

while I know what cryptocurrency is, that's pretty much the extant of my knowledge on the subject, and I have never gone on such a site before (to the best of my knowledge). This happens even when on the home screen or watching a youtube video. I've run the malwarebytes scan and even selected the deep scan option but so far it says nothing has been found. hopefully someone can help with figure out what is causing this?

More specifically, the website is:

Chrome will not load the page now as it states that the site cannot provide a secure connection as it uses an unsupported protocol (not sure what this means) and says ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH

Hi @AN_Spectre,

This may be browser related. This is caused by the way most browsers handle redirections executed by javascript code.  Most browsers don't do a great job of preventing these redirects, which also cause ad pop-ups.  Advertising affiliates are aware of this, and exploit this weakness.  Even if an advertising affiliate is shut down for using this exploit, they just come back with a different affiliate id and are right back at it.

The best way to block these pop-ups are to try a different browsers, disable javascript, install a browser with ad blocking (like Opera), and/or install Ad-block Plus.

If you encounter these pop-ups again, back out of them using Android's back key. Also, clearing your history and cache will help stop the ads from reoccurring.

Thanks for reaching out,
