Greetings,

Lifetime licenses are valid for all new versions including the latest so no, your lifetime license won't be negated by installing the latest version.  That said, there have been recent changes to how the licensing system activates and validates licenses so you may see a message about your license when you try to activate it in the latest version.  If that happens, go ahead and sign up for an account at My.Malwarebytes.com if you haven't already done so using the same email address you used when you originally purchased your license if possible so that you can manage your license from there.  You'll find instructions on how to do so in this support article.  If you do run into any trouble just contact Malwarebytes Support directly by filling out the form on the bottom of this page and they will assist you.

I hope this helps and if there is anything else we might assist you with please let us know.

Thanks

When I enter my License ID and License Key I get a popup telling me my usage level exceeds the maximum installations allowed and wants me to deactivate devices.  All of you other suggestions are circular and quite frustrating.  I have signed up for an account but am asked to do it again and again and again.

So, do I need to deactivate and hope that I get it back?  As I recall I was allowed installation on several machines.

7 minutes ago, Firefox said:

Lifetime license have always been for 1 device only.

This is accurate, in fact you can verify the number of devices for your license once you register at My.Malwarebytes.com and if you still have any problems or questions you may contact Malwarebytes Support directly as I suggested in my first reply and they can look up your license and verify it for you and even reset the installations/devices for you so that you may activate it on your system, if for example it shows the license as being in use from a previous installation or a device that you no longer use or no longer have access to.  You can also do this yourself using the My Account portal at My.Malwarebytes.com.

No problem, it's also possible that you'd seen the licensing from back when Malwarebytes first went to a yearly subscription.  At first those initial yearly licenses were valid for up to 3 devices at a time, though now they may be purchased for a single device or for multiple devices for an additional cost with a partial discount for each device/license purchased at checkout.

I was using this long before the yearly subscription model.

I finally got this running but it was far far too complicated to do do.  I'm technically competent but I always view these things from the point of view of my wife or mom.  Either of them would have thrown up their hands and I wouldn't blame them.

It's a lot simpler dealing directly with Support honestly, so that's the route that many users end up going if they are unable to manage it using the new My Account feature.  They did change the license validation process recently and I suspect this is why this issue popped up, but going forward it should be much easier to manage.  In fact, this support article should make it much easier to accomplish from now on now that you've gotten it activated through the new system.
