Need advice ref. Registry Values Infection

Recommended Posts

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.41

Database version: 2798

Windows 6.0.6002 Service Pack 2 (Vista)

Norton Anti-virus 2009

Windows Defender

Malwarebytes' scan gave this result and prompts me to remove these keys from the registry:

Registry Values Infected:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\System Tool (Fake.SystemTool) -> No action taken.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\System Tool (Fake.SystemTool) -> No action taken.

I am always wary about touching the registry. Would appreciate feedback from someone experienced. Should I delete the registry keys? Is there anything I should be careful of (or afraid of!)?

Thanks.

It's just a couple of run entries. Unless you have cause to believe that it is a legit utility that was detected, then go ahead and remove them.

Arthur....

Thanks very much. I've no reason to believe that this is a false positive.....I'll go ahead and remove them. I just needed a little reassurance.

Thanks again.
