Hello,

I have used the trial on Malwarebytes on my work laptop and when it expired I have kept it to use the free version.

Now I have a couple of questions. I've noticed that the MBAMService.exe is always running and I would like to know the reason why since the free version does not have real time protection. is there a way to disable that since it does not have any utility?

Moreover, I would like to know what effect has the "Start up with windows" option if I am using the free versione that as it's stated does not have any real time esecution.

Thank you in advance for any info

Greetings,

For the free version MBAMService.exe is actually still used.  It is the primary component for the scan/detection engine whenever a scan is executed.  That said, you don't have to leave Malwarebytes running in the background if you don't want to nor do you need to allow it to start with Windows.  It can be kept running in the tray if you wish for the sake of easy access as well as notifications when it's been a long time since you last ran a scan for example, however if you don't need that then you can select the option for it to not start with Windows and whenever you do run the program, as soon as you're done if you don't want it to continue to run in the background then simply right-click the Malwarebytes tray icon and select Quit Malwarebytes and that will terminate all Malwarebytes processes from memory including the service.

I hope this helps, and if there is anything else we might assist you with please let us know.

Thanks
