Hi  @AaronIT  :welcome:

I regret to read of this trouble.    Let me suggest a special procedure, as a first step.

We need to get the pc into windows Safe Mode, & then  run Malwarebytes there.

lets get the machine into Safe mode.

This article is a how-to on how to get to safe mode for Windows 8.1

https://www.eightforums.com/threads/safe-mode-start-windows-8-in.2757/

Run a scan with Malwarebytes.
Start Malwarebytes from the Start menu.

Click Settings. Then click the Protection tab.
Scroll down and lets be sure the line in SCAN OPTIONs for "Scan for rootkits" is ON
Click it to get it ON

Click the SCAN button.
Select a Threat Scan ( which should be the default).

When the scan phase is done, be real sure you Review and have all detected lines items check-marked on each line on the left. That too is very critical.

Then click on Quarantine selected.

Be sure all items were removed. Then too, Repeat the scan one more time. It does not take long.

and again, be sure all detected items are removed.

Let it remove what it has detected.

Now, Restart Windows back to normal mode.

When that is completed, kindly attach  the scan-log  report.

Cheers,

@AaronIT     Is the Windows system back in normal mode ?   and, are you able to then run Malwarebytes for Windows?    Just would like a confirmation.

I would be curious to see a copy of the last Scan log or two.

and let me know if you need other help.

Cheers,

So here are 2 scan logs, yesterdays had rootkits scanned as suggested.  Not sure what's preventing me from opening the software...  Perhaps the support tool can fix what's wrong.  I think I remember that there were some options in that software that allowed you to fix problems...

The report of the scan of the 27th is fine.   The report of the scan from the 13th is fine.

Allow me to suggest something.   This machine has a startup set for Soluto  ( some apparent tweaking utility) which starts way at the top of all things when Windows is started.

Could you consider a test -   disable the startup of Soluto   and then restart Windows.

See if things behave better after that.

I regret to read this.   It seems there is always something here going astray.

Be sure you have minimal program windows open   ( so you can see the setup utility always up front).

I would try to do one Windows Restart.

Have patience one the stup utility is started since it may not have rapid screen refreshes  ( even though it is working.

One Windows Restart  >>>do one new setup run.

Cheers,
