APeriodic MB AND Defender "Off", notification

Recommended Posts

You all were so helpful last time that I thought I'd run this one past you.

"Sometimes" I get the Windows-10-Pro notification that both MalwareBytes as well as Defender are off and I am running insecure.

So, I do not knowingly turn them off ... however ... what I "see" is that they both are actually on. This time when looking at Security center, I saw a puzzling, new, notification overlay telling me that some features are not permitted to view ... something to that effect.

Gee, I thought I was Admin on my home account .. it says I am, anyway.

So I've included some screenshots.

Any thoughts on this ??

Greetings,

That is odd.  Do these messages usually occur shortly after starting the system up or waking it from sleep or do they just occur occasionally randomly even after the system has been running for a while?  I ask because it could simply be an issue with a delay during startup where the two programs take a little longer to load causing Security Center to warn about their protection being disabled.

If that is the issue then it could be caused by a feature in Windows 10 called Fast Startup.  It has been known to cause issues with Malwarebytes and other programs in the past.  You can check to see if it is enabled and also learn how to turn it off by reviewing the information and instructions here as well as here.

If that does not resolve the issue then please do the following so that we may take a closer look at your installation and system configuration:

  1. Download and run the Malwarebytes Support Tool
  2. Accept the EULA and click Advanced tab on the left (not Start Repair)
  3. Click the Gather Logs button, and once it completes, attach the zip file it creates on your desktop to your next reply

Please let us know how it goes and provide the requested ZIP file if the problem persists.

Thanks

Hello Again.

Didn't get an email notice of posted reply, sri

Yes, I DO have Fast Startup b e c a u s e ...well, frankly, it was painfully slow to get this not-so-old Dell to start .. so I tried Fast Startup about a month ago.

will read the two aforementioned Links/Articles .

Well, "So Far", no anomalies.

Will leave 'Fast Startup' off for the time being.

on another salient point, that Screenshot I posted showing Windows Defender saying my IT Department had limited my access ... seems to be a documented Windows problem ... so if I disable MB four buttons, then immediately Windows Defender can be used to scan, for example, a file in the Downloads area by right-click. I just now verified that .. and also re-activated MB.

You may be able to fix the Windows Defender issue by changing a setting in Malwarebytes.  Open Malwarebytes and navigate to Settings>Application and under Windows Action Center select the option Never register Malwarebytes in the Windows Action Center then reboot your system and you should have both Malwarebytes and Windows Defender fully functional.

That update has been out for a while now and I haven't heard of any Malwarebytes clients being affected by it so far.  That's not to say that it is impossible, however I would have thought we'd have seen more users reporting issues if Malwarebytes was affected by it as many users of the other AVs verified to be affected have been reporting it on their support sites and across the web.

Yes i have seen no real problems with MWB, but just recently i remember slow scans and high resources use.

But i think MWB is one of the least to make problems, myself for example has no issues so far with MWB and Defender.

But as you say, you never know, there are so many different systems around.

i have now Windows 10 X64 Enterprise Version 1809 (Build 17763.437)
