Second instance of Malwarebytes in the Taskbar

Recommended Posts

I do not know if anyone else has seen this to on his/her PC, but sometimes there is appearing a second icon from Malwarebytes in the taskbar.

I have this problem on Windows 7, 8.1, and 10. But as i said not always. Even on a clean Windows installation or virtual machine install, it happens. Suddenly a second icon appears with a red exclamation mark in it, and sometimes just a second blue icon. As soon you hoover over this icon with your mouse, this extra icon disappears from the taskbar. When you then double click on the other icon from Malwarebytes, to see what went wrong, there is nothing. It just says Awesome! you are protected. It happens in Trial and Premium mode.

I have seen it on my big desktop and also on 2 other laptops, one from HP and one from Sony. These ones all use Windows 10 version 1809.

In VMWare i have some virtual machines running for old programs and games, and testing purposes. Also there i see this second icon sometimes, being it Windows 7, 8.1. Even on a clean install with all the drivers and latest updates, no programs other then Firefox and MBAM installed.

I don think it does harm anything, but it is a little annoying because you think there is something wrong. Just did feel to report this behavior to MWB.

With friendly greetings,

That happens when it gets a Cumulative update.
