Outbound connection blocked after launching steam

Recommended Posts

Malwarebytes is blocking an outbound connection after launching steam (steam.exe). The IP address displayed on the popup seems to be of a game server I played on, it may have downloaded some custom files onto my system.

I haven't encountered any problems apart from the Malwarebytes popup, the system runs just fine. I tried various threat scans and fixes via the farbar recovery scan tool to no avail. Could it be a false positive?

I started a topic in the Windows Malware Removal Help & Support forum recently and have been directed here to start a service topic.

Greetings,

Yes, it could be a false positive, though more likely it is just a case of the server that is being used for hosting that game instance also being shared with some type of malicious site/content as it is often the case that hosting providers that sell/provide websites/IPs (servers) to others will have multiple customers sharing a single server/IP address so that when a site is blocked based on its IP by Malwarebytes, the innocent site may get caught in the crossfire.  That said, there are threats known to infect users through malicious game servers so it would be a good idea to check with the Web Research team to see exactly why this particular IP address is being blocked.

To do so, please read the information here as well as the information in this topic and then create a new topic in the Website Blocking false positives area providing the requested info by clicking here and a member of the Malwarebytes Research team will investigate the issue and correct the block if it is a false positive and let you know if it is not an FP and advise you on what needs to be done if anything.

If there is anything else we might assist you with please don't hesitate to let us know.

Thanks
