Cant RDP To Win 2012 Server after installing Malwarebytes

Recommended Posts

Hi,

After a recent malware attack on a dev platform I have installed Malwarebytes on a production system to increase protection on a Google Cloud VM instance - Server 2012 R2 with SQLServer.

Installation was fine and an immediate scan showed no infections.

After a restart of the platform I was unable to access the machine via RDP and have been trying to recover the platform through SAC.

I found that SC could not start the terminal services and I could not run any recovery commands.

I was able to set the machine to reboot into safe mode and reconfigure the MBAMService via SC to be disabled.

Restarting the machine in normal mode recovered the RDP and allowed me to uninstall Malwarebytes so I am now (some hours later) back with production running but no protection.

Are you aware of this problem? Is it a known issue with the current build?

Is there a product you would recommend that would prevent this being an issue and give us some additional level of protection.

Cheers,

Rob

Hello and Welcome @triggar

I am assuming you installed Malwarebytes 3 consumer version on that 2012 R2 Server, if that is the case then it is not supported to run on any server OS as per the main website

Software requirements
Windows 10 (32/64-bit)
Windows 8.1 (32/64-bit)
Windows 8 (32/64-bit)
Windows 7 (32/64-bit)
Windows Vista (Service Pack 1 or later, 32/64-bit)*
Windows XP (Service Pack 3 or later, 32-bit only)*
Active Internet connection

That being said, your best option would be to contact the business section and they could direct you to the best solution using Malwarebytes Endpoint Protection going forward.
